H5 bird flu is now in NSW wildlife — with cases confirmed in native birds along the South Coast and western NSW.

As habitat shrinks and stressors stack up on wild populations, disease events like this hit already-vulnerable species even harder.

If you find a sick or dead wild bird, don't touch it — report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline: 1800 675 888.

Wildlife deserve a world where they're not fighting habitat loss, climate change, AND disease outbreaks all at once. Their wellbeing has to be part of how we plan and respond — not an afterthought.

HURRY, DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, 4TH SEPTEMBER!

Complete the Survey and have your say about the NSW Kangaroo Commercial Harvest Plan.

Not sure why it's important to do this?

Did you know that in one year alone up to 1.8 million adult kangaroos are shot, bludgeoned to death or left to starve in NSW alone for commercial harvesting. The commercial kangaroo industry represents that largest land-based slaughter of a native species in the world.

This is not a gold medal we should be aiming for!

Learn more about what is happening to our kangaroos and complete the survey. Their lives depend on it.

The Animal Justice Party (AJP) is a political party that was formed in response to the growing number of voters who feel strongly that much more needs to be done through the Australian parliamentary system to assist the wellbeing of animals.

A huge win at the City of Parramatta Council meeting last night, with Councillors unanimously supporting a motion to ban fur.

The motion was proposed by Deputy Lord Mayor Charles Chen and seconded by Councillor Judy Greenwood, with both speaking in support of going fur free.

Our local Animal Justice Party member Janet also spoke in support during the Public Forum, helping make the case for why this issue matters. A huge thank you to Janet for her dedication and hard work on this campaign.

The motion was passed unanimously by all 13 Councillors present.

This win was achieved through the compassion and advocacy of many including: City of Parramatta councillors from across the political spectrum, FOUR PAWS, local Animal Justice Party volunteers like Janet and other community members who spoke up for animals used in the cruel fur industry.

We’ve seen time and time again that local action can make a huge difference for animals.

Together, we can create change in our communities and build a kinder future for all.

The Southern Corroboree Frog has become the mascot for pro-cull supporters. Just speak to anyone who is ‘for the environment’ and ‘our native animals’ and they will quickly quote that the protection of the Corroboree Frog as the reason why they support the slaughter of Brumbies. The blame for the demise of these beautiful frogs has been laid completely at the hooves of the Brumby.

As always, when it comes to justifying the slaughter of a species, this is only a half truth. Whilst acknowledging that feral animals such as the Brumby with their hard hooves impact the ground where these frogs live, scientists and ecologists uniformly agree that the principal factors threatening the Corroboree Frog are:

the infectious disease chytridiomycosis
bush fires
habitat loss due to commercial development such as ski resorts and Snowy Mountain Hydro 2.0
climate change
pollution.

In fact, according to Wikipedia entry for the Southern Corroboree Frog, quoted from a CSIRO report, the Southern Corroboree Frog was abundant until the 1970s and then experienced a rapid decline from the 1980s. Now, as the Brumbies have been present in the National Park since the 1840s, that means that the Corroboree Frog had been living quite sustainably with these horses for more than 100 years. The Brumbies are not the threat to the frogs that the Invasive Species Council and the NSW Government has made them out to be.

What happened in the 1980s? Simple. The chytrid fungus, which had been decimating frog populations around the world, had arrived in the park. It can only be assumed that this infectious fungus arrived via the infected footwear of visitors or construction materials to make tourist infrastructure brought in from outside the park.

If the true cause for the demise of the Corroboree Frog is from an infectious disease brought in from outside, bush fires, habitat loss and climate change, why are the Brumbies being culled…to save these frogs? Doesn’t culling these sentient, intelligent creatures to save the Corroboree Frog sound like trying to suture a cut artery with a band-aid? Why is the government ignoring the true factors killing these frogs?

If you want to know the answers:
write to your local MP ( https://elections.nsw.gov.au/elections/find-my-electorate )
write to Premier Chris Minns ( https://www.nsw.gov.au/nsw-government/premier-of-nsw/contact-premier )
write to Penny Sharpe MLC ( https://www.nsw.gov.au/nsw-government/ministers/minister-environment-heritage )
Write to a Liberal MP ( https://nsw.animaljusticeparty.org/email-libmps-support-brumbies )
Sign the Parliament Council epetition before 4th September ( https://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/parliamentary-business/petitions/sign-epetition?epetitionId=804&ref=10902 )

Let them know that you don’t support the culling of these Brumbies and that you want real solutions (not band-aids) to the protection of the endangered species of Kosciuszko National Park.

This integrity commission has more than a few integrity issues.

Meanwhile, who’s looking out for racing Greyhounds’ welfare?

https://www.facebook.com/share/17txotxL8z/?mibextid=wwXIfr

There has been a HUGE cover-up about why the Chief Commissioner at the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission lost his job recently.

We have just released the documents – despite multiple attempts by the Shooters Party who tried to hide evidence of an allegation of sexual harassment against the Chief Commissioner (as well as other allegations concerning senior staff within GWIC) by rejecting the documents being released at every chance they had in the House.

It makes you wonder who is working with who to cover what up – but today they have lost that battle, and the truth is now released.

This investigation by my office has made one thing clear – the integrity commission has an integrity issue. So who is looking after the greyhounds?
