It’s lyrebird breeding season 🪶

Between April and October, male Superb Lyrebirds establish territories and perform elaborate songs and dances from display mounds to attract mates.
These remarkable birds can often be spotted scratching through leaf litter in search of insects, spiders and worms, playing an important role in turning over the forest floor.
Famous for their incredible mimicry, lyrebirds can imitate everything from other birds and dogs barking to camera shutters and even car alarms.
Keep an ear out next time you’re walking through the bush!

It’s World Turtle Day! 🐢🌿

Eastern Long-necked Turtles can often be seen around ponds and wetlands, where they help keep aquatic ecosystems healthy and clean. They feed on insects, small aquatic animals and carrion, helping to keep waterways balanced and clean.

Unlike many turtles, Eastern Long-necks stretch their necks out to the side rather than pulling them straight back into their shell. They’re also strong swimmers and can travel across land after rain in search of new waterways.

Keep an eye out for wild turtles around the ponds and drop into the Visitor Centre to meet either Tiny, Todd or Tetley 💚

World Bee Day spotlight: the Sugarbag Bee & the Green Carpenter Bee 🐝💚

These two native bees found at the Wildflower Garden have very different lifestyles, but one important job in common - pollination.
Sugarbag Bees are social stingless bees that live in colonies, while Green Carpenter Bees are solitary and among the largest bees in Australia.
Today we’re celebrating the tiny pollinators helping our bushland thrive every day. 🌼
