Sophie and Kim attended the Penrith City Council Sector Connect meeting, hearing from keynote speaker Professor Bronwen Dalton AM - founder and CEO of Ruff Sleepers, a charity that supports people experiencing homelessness by washing and grooming their beloved dogs 🐶🐕

Sector Connect is a fantastic initiative that encourages connection and collaboration between local community organisations – we’re proud to be part of it 🙏

Jessa (*name changed), a young mother in her mid-20s, came to our service after experiencing a relationship breakdown and was caring for two young children on her own.

She had fallen behind on her electricity bill and was extremely stressed about how she would manage the debt while supporting her family on a very limited income.

Our emergency relief team provided Jessa with a food hamper and advocated on her behalf with her electricity provider. We helped place her on a hardship program, arranged a payment plan, ensured her concession was applied correctly, and had her account temporarily put on hold to relieve immediate pressure.

Jessa was overwhelmed with relief and expressed how much the support meant to her. What may have seemed like a small intervention removed a major financial stress and gave her breathing room to focus on caring for her children and getting back on track financially.

Big thanks to Belle Property Lower Blue Mountains for hosting one of our Winter Warmers Food Drive crates. With community need rising, these pantry staples go straight to local families doing it tough.

We’re collecting winter-friendly food items like:

❄ Chunky soups
❄ Tinned meals
❄ Pasta sauces
❄ Tinned tuna
❄ Dried soup mixes
❄ Longlife milk
❄ Hot chocolate / Milo
❄ Chocolate biscuits

If you’re visiting Belle, consider adding a tin, a packet, or a winter treat to the crate.

And keep an eye out — more donation crates are popping up in other local businesses across the Mountains 👀

Let’s make sure every family has food on the table this winter 🙏❤

I was recently filming a series of interviews with our Essentials volunteers for National Volunteer Week - asking them about their experiences, what they’ve learned, and why they give their time ❤🙏

It was meant to be a celebration of volunteering.

But as the conversations unfolded, a common theme kept emerging.

Several of our volunteers shared the same reflection: they hadn’t realised just how many people in our community are struggling, until they saw it firsthand.

We didn’t set out to tell that story - but it’s one we couldn’t ignore.

This winter, that need is only increasing ❄

If you’re in a position to help, please consider donating to our Winter Appeal. Your support will help us provide food, essential items, and relief to families who need it most.

When families receive support at the right time, the outcomes can be life changing.

In the past year our Essentials team has helped families to:

🟢Access mental health supports
🟢Connect with financial counsellors
🟢Secure safe housing
🟢Access food and emergency relief
🟢Link up with domestic violence case workers
🟢Connect with ongoing support services

This is why our Winter Appeal matters. A knock on the door for food relief can be a lifeline to other essential supports.

Your donation doesn’t just help in a crisis – it helps families build stability for the future.

National Simultaneous Storytime was a roaring success at our North St Marys Playgroup!

📚🦘✨ We joined thousands of children across Australia to read Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller, a gorgeous story celebrating courage, perseverance and teamwork.

And the fun didn’t stop there… We had a petting zoo with sheep, goats, alpacas and chickens, messy play, craft, bubble stations, and even a visit from Rooby Roo for storytime and music action songs 💛🐐🐑🫧

A year ago, Sienna (name changed) never imagined she would be living in her car.

She worked in a professional role. She was studying at university. But after suffering a head injury that caused severe memory issues, everything changed.

Unable to continue working, she lost her income, fell into financial hardship, and eventually became homeless. Her children were living interstate with family because she could no longer support them financially.

When she came to our service, she needed more than just food.

Our team provided emergency food relief and fuel vouchers, connected her with homelessness services, arranged referrals to a financial counsellor and free medical support, and most importantly, took the time to listen.

Before she left, she told staff she felt more hopeful and more positive about her situation. Sometimes the most important thing we can give someone is not just food or vouchers - it’s hope.

Donate today and us help provide food, practical support, and compassionate care to people facing crisis in our community. All donations over $2 are tax deductible

This week, our emergency relief pantry got a very special upgrade ✨

A local gentleman - who prefers to stay anonymous - handcrafted a work bench for our volunteers. He donated his time, his skills and all the materials to create a sturdy and useful space for packing food hampers.

It’s gestures like this, often unseen and uncelebrated, that keep our pantry running. We are surrounded by people who quietly give what they can, to support their neighbours who are doing it tough – and we are forever grateful ❤🙏
