TO RANK AND FILE ....MAKE IT YOUR DECISION Demand a rank and file ballot for NSW Labor Leadership SIGN THE PETITION at the foot of the page
This was my comment

The proposed leadership change process exemplifies what is so wrong with the Party!

Its all about bickering, lack of respect, factional tribalism, policy lite, not being really community engaged, a sense of political entitlement come election times, and worse apart from being dead on its feet in so many branches like mine!!! ,...it's who you know that carry's any weight not what you do 24/7 in your *community and that IS my CURRENT experience >> *Communities of people who share the same interests.
Communities of people trying to bring about change.
Communities of people brought together by geography
Communities of Practice brought together by
circumstances work unions etc ...Our Party seems to believe attending Party meetings and who you know is the be all and end all to hold leadership.

It should be metaphorically how much ....shoe leather you have worn out, knuckles sore from door knocking, voice hoarse from public speaking...and if a unionist picket line engaged and not just passing through the conduit of the machine as a career...
Perhaps we need other choices
Perhaps we should keep Jodi McKay how good would that look

THIS IS A NSW STATE FUNDING ISSUE
THERE IS GREAT NEED ELSEWHERE
OBJECTION TO BEACHES LINK TUNNEL AND GORE HILL FREEWAY CONNECTION

NORTH SYDNEY COUNCILLORS Baker, Beregi, and Carr objection letter to Liberal Government Minister Robert Stokes.
The letter concludes with the following objections or similar
1. the lack of a business case for the project
(this includes the Western Harbour Tunnel)
2. the lack of alternative transport options including public transport (promised in 2014)
3. lack of meaningful community consultation
(All the sessions held by the RMS have been nothing but a predetermined sham)
4. Significant and devastating loss of public open parkland and sporting space
5. Loss of storm water harvesting in Cammeray that provides water for North Sydney Sporting field and flora loss of trees and canopy, loss of water treatment infrastructure
6 the unnecessary loss of public open space and future open space, loss of sporting facilities, loss of trees and canopy, loss of water treatment infrastructure
7. unnecessary impact on our schools and school children
8 environmental impacts on waterways, reserves, flora and fauna
9 inappropriate and untested mitigation measures
10 lack of concern for the health and well being of our residents
11 significant adverse impacts on aboriginal heritage and maritime environment
WHITE ELEPHANTS
Financially both the Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link are un affordable and the RMS traffic data simply does not support a need for either. They will be White Elephants.
REAL NEED
There is need for investment that would be better spent fairly across the Sydney and NSW.
People are still waiting for restitution after the 2020 Bushfires
followed by floods.
Investment should for more School infrastructure and equipment.
and Affordable Housing
More Hospitals and better aged care facilities

“CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE BUSHFIRE THREAT”

CLIMATE COUNCIL REPORT RELEASED 6 years ago 2013!!

“CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE BUSHFIRE THREAT”

CLIMATE COUNCIL REPORT RELEASED TODAY

Australians have often experienced the serious consequences of bushfires.
Over the past decade alone, large and uncontrollable fires devastated several suburbs in Canberra (2003), took 173 lives and destroyed over 2,000 homes in Victoria and Western Australia (2009),and destroyed over 200 properties in Tasmania (2013), forcing the evacuation of hundreds of people from the Tasman Peninsula.

Together with the recent bushfire crisis in NSW that destroyed 200 houses, these events have drawn the world’s attention to the risks that fires pose for Australia. Of course Australians have always lived with fire and its consequences.

But climate change is increasing fire danger weather and thus the risk of fires.

6 KEY POINTS FROM THE REPORT BY THE CLIMATE COUNCIL

1. CLIMATE CHANGE IS ALREADY INCREASING THE RISK OF BUSHFIRES:

Climate change is already increasing the risk of bushfires. Extreme fire weather has increased over the last 30 years in southeast Australia.

Hot, dry conditions have a major influence on bushfires. Climate change is making hot days hotter, and heatwaves longer and more frequent. Some parts of Australia are becoming drier.

These conditions are driving up the likelihood of very high fire danger weather, especially in the southwest and southeast.
Australia is a fire prone country and has always experienced bushfires.

All extreme weather events are now being influenced by climate change because they are occurring in a climate system that is hotter and moister than it was 50 years ago.

2. THE FIRE SEASON IS BECOMING LONGER:

In southeast Australia the fire season is becoming longer, reducing the opportunities for hazard reduction burning.
These changes have been most marked in spring, with fire weather extending into October and March.

The fire season will continue to lengthen into the future, further reducing the opportunities for safe hazard reduction burning.

One analysis indicated that under a relatively modest warming scenario, the area of prescribed burning in the Sydney region would need to increase two- to three-fold to counteract the increased fire activity. Under a more realistic scenario, the amount of hazard reduction will need to increase five-fold.

3. RECENT BUSH FIRES INFLUENCED BY RECORD HAT CONDITIONS:

Australia had just experienced its hottest 12 months on record. NSW had experienced the hottest September on record, days well above average in October and exceptionally dry conditions. These conditions mean that fire risk has been extremely high and we have already seen severe bushfires in NSW in the Central Coast and the Blue Mountains.

The Black Saturday fires in Victoria were preceded by a decade-long drought with a string of record hot years, coupled with a severe heatwave in the preceding week.

The previous record for the Forest Fire Danger Index was broken by such an extent that it was revised and the category “Catastrophic” or “Code Red” was added.

Since 2009 there have been a number of subsequent declarations of Catastrophic conditions around southern Australia in step with the hotter and drier climate.

4. INCREASE EXPECTED IN NUMBER OF DAYS WITH EXTREME FIRE DANGER

In the future, Australia is very likely to experience an increased number of days with extreme fire danger. Fire frequency and intensity is expected to increase substantially in coming decades in many regions, especially in those regions currently most affected by bushfires, and where a substantial proportion of the Australian population lives.

5. EMERGENCY SERVICES MUST PREPARE

It is crucial that communities, emergency services, health services and other authorities prepare for the increasing severity and frequency of extreme fire conditions. As fire risk increases, disaster risk reduction and adaptation policies will play a critical role in reducing risks to people and human assets. Increased resources for our emergency services and fire management agencies will be required.

One estimate of the future economic costs of bushfires indicates that with no adaptive change, increased damage to the agricultural industry in Victoria by 2050 could add $1.4 billion to existing costs.

By 2030, it has been estimated that the number of professional firefighters will need to approximately double (compared to 2010) to keep pace with increased population, asset value, and fire danger weather.

6. THE NEXT 10 YEARS ; CRITICAL

This is the critical decade Australia must strive to cut emissions rapidly and deeply to join global efforts to stabilize the world’s climate and to reduce the risk of even more extreme events, including bushfires.

2/2 BushFire Emergency Again we told you so back in 2013 Its just criminal

Statement by Shadow emergency services minister Trish Doyle...
"At the height of a bushfire emergency, Gladys Berejiklian has used the political cover of an unfolding tragedy to misrepresent her record on emergency services," .

"Letters released by the FBEU Fire Brigade Employees Union show that firefighters have been subject to the labour expense cap policy to cut staff costs in all public sector agencies by 1.2 per cent each year - despite the government promising that public sector cuts would not impact frontline staff."

FBEU

A statement from the Fire Brigade Employees' Union said there were now fewer permanent full time firefighters then there were eight years ago.

"This government knows why the overtime bill is through the roof, and it's because we just don't have enough firefighters," the statement said

"And there's no money to go out and recruit."

"CHEESEBURGERS AND GUNS"
Climate change and pricing carbon.

There is a Video at the end of this article WATCH IT with Jim Casey

Now to Darin....

“…let’s not react to the those people who spend their lives bleating about how poor they are, all the while paying $100/w for smokes and $150/w on grog, who all have ipods, new cars and new golf clubs.

The same people that jump on shock jock radio and spew venom along with the pied pipers that fuel these freak shows, joining the chorus of those calling for civil uprisings, screaming at those co**ie socialists daring to threaten their right to cheeseburgers and guns. Give me a break.”

THE WAY I SEE IT:

I’m a simple man….. I’ve looked at both sides of the climate change argument for a long time, and this is the way I see it.

I don’t believe the skeptics. I don’t believe those that use politics to take the easy, hysterical, popular road.

I believe climate change threatens the future of my country and the world I live in.

I believe that the science on this is in, that science proves that mankind is in the process ruining this planet.

I believe climate change threatens the working lives and living conditions of everyone on this planet. After looking at both sides of the argument, this is my view.

CHANGE IS DIFFICULT:

It’s easy to ignore our effects on this planet. To believe we are having a serious negative impact is scary. To do nothing is much easier. To actually make change is difficult.

Like anything that is hard, and requires change, we can only take responsibility for ourselves. Even if by doing the right thing makes no difference until others around the world make the necessary changes, doing nothing is not an option.

I respect people in this world that step up and have a go, and do what they think is right, even if it is unpopular, even if it is difficult.

I respect people in the political world who will stand up and do what we elect them to do, not to do what is popular even if it is wrong.

A PRICE ON CARBON:

In Australia, the ALP could not have been any more open about the fact that they want, and indeed intended to have, a carbon trading scheme. The current scheme in Australia (2012) is a step towards that.

The fact that the Australian Government have to deal with the minor parties in a hung parliament is a reality, and the fact that they need to make concessions to do that is also a necessity. Is that going back on a promise? – I don’t care. I want them to do the right thing, and I am hoping this is the road to get there.

A PRICE TO PAY:

Will paying more for electricity, and paying more for the energy I use hurt me financially? Yes it will. Does that make it wrong? No. It will change my behaviors, and I can tell you, I probably need that. I think everyone around me falls into that category.

Australians are the biggest polluters per capita in the developed world. What gives us that right? It’s reprehensible and begs the question as to why we shouldn’t be changing our ways. If I need to pay my way to do the right thing, I’m happy with that.

We are a rich country by comparison to our neighbors. I think we need to start acting like mature members of the community, instead of whining like sooks everytime our Govt makes decisions which threaten our TV and computer use.

STUPIDITY:

When petrol goes up, we all cry foul because we really need our car to drive on the freeway, right next to that other person in the car on the same freeway, going to the same place, who also has one person in the car.

And those that are doing it genuinely tough, who will be really affected by price hikes, they should be compensated, fair enough – full support. These are the people that need looking after, and dialogue rightfully exists around those questions.

CHEESEBURGER AND GUNS:

But please let’s not react to the those people who spend their lives bleating about how poor they are, all the while paying $100/w for smokes and $150/w on grog, who all have ipods, new cars and new golf clubs.

The same people that jump on shock jock radio and spew venom along with the pied pipers that fuel these freak shows, joining the chorus of those calling for civil uprisings, screaming at those co**ie socialists daring to threaten their right to cheeseburgers and guns. Give me a break.

ITS ABOUT ALL OF US:

I’m all for fighting to improve the wages and conditions of not only firefighters, but for all Australians. But sometimes we need to stop complaining about taking responsibility as citizens of this planet, and accept that we may have to pay for the actions of our existence, and indeed our technological advances, over the last few hundred years, and that this may actually further our interests and the interests of our families.

The science is in. It is obvious we must act. That’s how I see it.

WE WARNED you 1/2

AND ITS CRIMINAL WE WERE IGNORED

In 2012 and 2013 I/we warned of the impending catastrophe of resulting from and agin with this post in 2013

The LNP Government chose to ignore THE WARNINGS and today the Brejiklian Liberal and National Party NSW government made cuts to the Fire Services the state government of budget cuts to the Rural Fire Service and the operational Fire and Rescue NSW budget as bushfires continue to burn across the state.

NSW LABOR

Jodi McKay said the government's budget papers reveal cuts that mean fewer firefighters were on the ground to fight fires.

"Facts are facts, and Dugald Saunders' own government's budget papers show that Fire and Rescue NSW and the Rural Fire Service combined are facing a $40m budget cut - a cut that will mean fewer people on the ground to fight fires and less budget to do it with," she said.

This week in state parliament Labor MPs read from the June 2019 Budget papers and revealed a series of funding cuts and shortfalls they say have hobbled Fire and Rescue NSW and the Rural Fire Service in the lead up to this 2019 bushfire season.

high in 12 yrs budget rotten to the core designed to take a bloody bite out of you

Hockey wants to leave us sinners with a few Apples ?

Hockey is right: The budget was poorly framed.

What kind of economic genius produces a 'tough' budget that doubles the budget deficit !

European governments debt rises to 93.9% of GDP.

Australia's 14% shows we have Clowns running the economy now who think we have a budget emergency.

THE PICTURE IS A METAPHOR

The apple is in mythical legend a forbidden fruit a symbol of sin It seems according to Abbott and Hockey if you are poor unemployed sick.

Conversely in Celtic mythology for unmarried recipients the apples would be placed under their pillows in the hope that they would their dreams.

Apples were sold in the great depression for $5 to aid starving workers in the US.

So there you have it; Hockey cancels your dreams on the one hand while providing you an apple (reduced family benefits 6 month wait for youth employment GP Tax etc etc
