We’re thrilled to welcome 2025 with stronger protections for workers, after years of partnering with unions to advocate for tougher wage theft laws.
Deliberate wage theft by employers is now a criminal offence in Australia.
This legislation was a big win for fairness and workplace accountability, and was introduced by the Albanese Government following a campaign led by .
We’ve seen first-hand the consequences of unchecked wage theft - McKell research discovered workers being paid a pitiful $3 an hour fruit picking on the NSW north coast. The impact this exploitation has on workers and communities was explored in our Blue Harvest project, available on our website.
