We help to ensure these organisations and their staff do their jobs properly and meet their responsibilities to the community. A parliamentary committee scrutinises our work and reviews our performance. NSW Omb

A NSW Ombudsman investigation has identified failures in Insurance and Care NSW’s (icare’s) management of workers compensation premium adjustments between 2017 and 2023.

The report found icare engaged in unreasonable conduct by failing to exercise its statutory functions within a reasonable timeframe.

The Ombudsman has made several recommendations to icare, including a formal apology to affected complainants, flexible payment plans and ongoing compliance reporting and audits over the next 12 months.

A NSW Ombudsman report has found the administrative conduct of Lane Cove Council regarding its compliance with, and regulation of, fire safety requirements at a property in Lane Cove to be unreasonable and contrary to law.

The Ombudsman found that the council’s failure to address the non-compliance of fire safety measures and fire related defects, and failure to exercise its discretion to take enforcement action against the owners of the premises (including itself) amounted to maladministration.

The council was also found to have acted contrary to law by failing to provide annual fire safety statements for 7 years

5 recommendations have been made by the NSW Ombudsman to help ensure the council has the clarity it needs about its roles as owner, co-developer and regulator.

Today marks the start of National Reconciliation Week.

It’s a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories and consider how we can contribute to reconciliation.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

All In makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.

A NSW Ombudsman report has identified significant shortcomings in the design and implementation of the audit program for COVID grants administered by Service NSW (SNSW) and Revenue NSW (RNSW).

The investigation identifies unfairness in outcomes for audited grant recipients and highlights the importance of having clear and comprehensive frameworks in place prior to the commencement of audit programs.

The report has made 7 recommendations aimed at improving future audit programs by increasing transparency, establishing a compliance methodology from the outset, ensuring consistent application of policies and providing clear and customer-centric communication.
