Today, 9th April, marks 9 years since starting our fruitful creative network. Happy birthday AuCN!

This last year has been a very disrupted year for artists, we don't need to be reminded but we do acknowledge that artists were worst looked after in the governments support scheme. For the AuCN headquarters we had our own unique creation that has disrupted us from our work, in the form of a baby. From working on a business baby to making a flesh and blood one, we've been a little preoccupied.

To all our members, collaborators, past admins, friends and our new family, thank you for being part of the journey. We look forward to another year of more opportunities, more inspiration, more support, more compassion and most importantly, MORE CREATING!
Much love Corrine.

A very interesting read about how conservative Australia is. I've unfortunately experienced this within the arts at all different levels and different disciplines. Why aren't we more supportive? Why aren't we more progressive? What have been your experiences both at home in Australia and abroad. Lets discuss...

While hundreds of thousands of Australians returned in 2020, and thousands more struggled to, most expatriates stayed put – here some share why

Are there benefits for an artist to be physically active?

As an artist you may find yourself stuck in one room working behind a canvas or computer for long periods of time and this year has not been much help. Has your mental health and creativity suffer because of this?
According to betterhealth.gov.vic being physically active helps your concentration, alertness and mood, not to mention boosting your self confidence, and coping mechanism.
Yoga, running and high intensity workouts are recommended to help improve focus, reduce stress, and be more resilient to stressful situations and keep your stress levels down.

It's literally an easy fix to combatting stress, improving your focus and boosting creative thinking. Experts suggest 30 minutes, 5 days a week will make a difference. Time to start including fitness in your creative process.

Is it still important to have a website in the age of social media?

I believe it is as important as it's ever been. In a time where we are drowning in images, tik-tok videos a website is a place for you to clarify your product and services. A website creates a personal space, likened to a shop or gallery for potential clients to step out of the flurry of instagram and facebook to connect to you, one on one.

A website allows you to show your creativity without the restrictions of square layout of Instagram or ever changing formate of Facebook. Really let your style and personality shine. Have your services listed, your previous clients and a link to your socials so visitors can still connect with you and stay up to date with your joruney.

So there's always lots of questions to ask when applying for or quoting a job, and as every job is different the questions vary just as much. However, time is one of the most important, and although it may be very obvious, it is so often misquoted.
The time it will take to fulfil the job is often more than the installation/shoot day, it's your time to plan, develop ideas, communication with a client about the job, prepare yourself/tools for the job, not to forget the travel!

If you're not sure how much time it will take to do these tasks get use to marking the time it takes for phone calls, replying to emails preparing and after a few jobs you'll see a pattern. Having this information will give you not only a clearer idea of how much time YOU need to take on a job, but will give you the confidence to quote future jobs with a better idea of how much real time it takes.

Society has been dramatically impacted by the recent global events and our community has been hit very hard unfortunately.
Fortunate for some who've been able to get the kick back from the government, but if you haven't and you've got you've had a online store through Big Cartel they have set up a relief fund to help you out. On top of that they have gifted all their accounts with a free upgrade, I'm unsure how long the upgrade will last but it's all little perks to help in these tough times.
Take care, stay safe and stay home! xoxo
