What is the history of the tallest buildings in Sydney? For more almost 30 years, building heights in Sydney have been capped at the level of the lower deck of Sydney Tower. But with recent planning changes, taller towers are on the way.

Even in the 1840s, minute takers resorted to a little doodling 🎨 

One of our earliest council records is a set of handwritten draft minutes, complete with charming sketches in the margins by the Town Clerk, John Rae, who was also an accomplished artist. 

It’s a reminder that Sydney’s history isn’t just dates and decisions… it’s people, quirks, and creativity.

Alongside funding for creative projects, there are new opportunities this year, including funding for creative spaces and new support to help professional practising artists keep living and working in Sydney.

We're also seeking creative tenants for six unfurnished one-bedroom apartments on William Street, Darlinghurst. They're available for professional artists who need a place to both live and work.

Eligible art forms for artist support and creative live/work include:

Aboriginal cultural practitioners
actors and directors
community cultural development artists
composers, songwriters and arrangers
craft practitioners
dancers and choreographers
musicians and singers
visual artists
writers
