Why celebrate World Bicycle Day?

Well because....

The bicycle is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally sustainable means of transportation;

The bicycle can serve as a tool for development and as a means not just of transportation but also of access to education, health care and sport;

The synergy between the bicycle and the user fosters creativity and social engagement and gives the user an immediate awareness of the local environment;

The bicycle is a symbol of sustainable transportation and conveys a positive message to foster sustainable consumption and production, and has a positive impact on climate.

Here is my most recent cycling pic from last Sunday (slightly cool) - with the fam in the Hunter Valley riding the Hermitage Rd cycleway

Lovely article from Kate Rawls book 'The Carbon Cycle'....

"The many long-distance cyclists I met on the road had often exchanged money for time and, even in the worst conditions, they had the exuberance of beings recently released from a cage. Whether intentionally or not they embody a different solution; quality of life understood as quality of time and experience rather than quantity of stuff and money. Less stuff and money almost invariably means much lower emissions. Of course long distance cycling is not everyone’s thing, but lower emissions and higher quality of life is the ultimate win/win, whatever form this takes."

It's time for the 2019 Big Green Bike Ride again! And look at the fabulous route.

We are starting at the Art Gallery of NSW, rising down the Bourke St cyclway, through Glebe and across to The Greenway and then coming back through Marrickville and finishing at a brewery/watering hole after riding down King St Newtown!

All of this on Saturday 9th March, 10am til 1pm

Last year we rode to Kurnell, in 2015 across th Harbour Bridge and into Young Henry's. This year it's inner city cycleways that will et a workout!
