A little rain (okay, a LOT of rain) might have put a dampener on some of the plans for this weekend’s Alstonville Show, but it certainly hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm of their wonderful pavilion exhibitors! ☔️🎪
While the incredibly wet conditions have meant the Horse and Cattle Sections are unable to proceed as scheduled this weekend, the Alstonville Show is still going ahead with a reduced program!
And just look at this! SIX entries in the AgShows NSW Rich Fruit Cake Competition! 🍰
This isn’t just any fruit cake competition. Entrants must follow a compulsory recipe, with judges looking for consistency, quality and traditional baking skills.
The winning cake from Alstonville Show will earn its baker a place in the Far North Coast Group Final, being held at the North Coast National Showgrounds in Lismore this November.
The winner of that competition will then progress to the 2027 Sydney Royal Easter Show, competing against the best fruit cake bakers from across NSW for the State Championship!
And yes, they have to bake a fresh cake for each stage. No pressure whatsoever! 😂
Despite the weather, Alstonville’s pavilion is filled to the brim with incredible entries, showcasing the talents of their local community.
There’s still plenty to enjoy at the Alstonville Show this weekend!

🐓 Poultry Section
🎡 Sideshow Alley, with the The Showmens Guild of Australasia bringing all the fun of the fair!
🚛 Muddy Monster Trucks and 🎆 Fireworks are also potentially on the program for Saturday, subject to weather and ground conditions.
And here’s another great reason to come along!
🎟️ FREE ENTRY on Friday until 5 pm!
🎟️ SATURDAY ENTRY – Just $2 per person aged 6 and over, with children under 6 FREE!
It’s certainly been a challenging lead-up for the hardworking Alstonville Show volunteers, but their determination to deliver as much of the Show as possible is a wonderful example of the spirit of our agricultural show movement.
AgShows NSW encourages everyone to get behind the Alstonville Show, support their volunteers and exhibitors, and enjoy the attractions that are still going ahead.
Please follow the Alstonville Show’s page for the latest program updates.
And who knows? One of these six beautiful fruit cakes might just be on its way to Sydney Royal in 2027! 🏆
