On World Lighthouse Day, the third Sunday in August, the 🇬🇷 Hellenic Navy opens them to the public:
Poros' Dana Lighthouse
Gythio's islet tower linked to the myth of Paris and Helen
The old harbor lighthouse in Chania
Cape Tenaro at the edge of the underworld myth
Akrotiri watching over Santorini's caldera
Andros' Tourlitis is the exception – its rock-top perch stays locked even on this day, too small for visitors. Still worth the view from the shore!
Most people never think to visit a lighthouse in Greece. Have you?

🎬 The Greek Film Festival of Sydney invites primary and secondary school students to take part in a unique film competition combining creativity, cinema, Artificial Intelligence and the Greek language. Students are encouraged to create a short film in Greek and share their unique vision of the future. 🤖🎥

🇬🇷 12ο ΔΙΕΘΝΕΣ ΘΕΡΙΝΟ ΠΑΝΕΠΙΣΤΗΜΙΟ
"Η Ελληνική Γλώσσα στην Αυστραλία: από τη μνήμη στο μέλλον"

Το 12ο Διεθνές Θερινό Πανεπιστήμιο έρχεται τον Σεπτέμβριο, για πρώτη φορά στην Αυστραλία, ως μια συνεργασία ανάμεσα στο Πανεπιστήμιο Ιωαννίνων και το Πανεπιστήμιο της ΝΝΟ (UNSW).

Πιο συγκεκριμένα, το Εργαστήριο Μελέτης Κοινωνικών Θεμάτων, Μέσων Ενημέρωσης και Εκπαίδευσης του Παιδαγωγικού Τμήματος Νηπιαγωγών της Σχολής Επιστημών Αγωγής του Πανεπιστημίου Ιωαννίνων, σε συνεργασία με το Πρόγραμμα Ελληνικών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου της ΝΝΟ, το Foundation for Hellenic Studies του UNSW και τη μη κερδοσκοπική εταιρεία Unity in Philia, διοργανώνουν ένα συνέδριο αφιερωμένο στην ελληνική γλώσσα, με τη συμμετοχή περισσοτέρων από 100 εισηγητών από την Αυστραλία, την Ελλάδα, τις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες και άλλες χώρες.

Η διοργάνωση τελεί υπό την αιγίδα του Προέδρου της Ελληνικής Δημοκρατίας και έχει τη στήριξη της Γενικής Γραμματείας Απόδημου Ελληνισμού και Δημόσιας Διπλωματίας του Υπουργείου Εξωτερικών.

📅 Οι εργασίες του συνεδρίου θα πραγματοποιηθούν από τη Δευτέρα 7 έως και την Παρασκευή 11 Σεπτεμβρίου 2026, από τις 9:00 π.μ. έως τις 4:00 μ.μ., στο Rex Vowels Theatre του Πανεπιστημίου της ΝΝΟ.

Παράλληλα, καθ’ όλη τη διάρκεια της εβδομάδας, έχουν προγραμματιστεί βραδινές πολιτιστικές εκδηλώσεις, εκθέσεις, προβολή ντοκιμαντέρ και παραδοσιακές μουσικοχορευτικές παραστάσεις, ελεύθερες για το κοινό.

🇬🇷 12th INTERNATIONAL SUMMER UNIVERSITY
"The Greek Language in Australia: From Memory to the Future"

The 12th International Summer University is coming to Australia for the first time this September, as a collaboration between the University of Ioannina and the University of New South Wales (UNSW).

More specifically, the Laboratory for the Study of Social Issues, Media and Education of the Department of Early Childhood Education at the University of Ioannina, in collaboration with the Greek Studies Program at UNSW, the Foundation for Hellenic Studies at UNSW and the non-profit organisation Unity in Philia, are organising a conference dedicated to the Greek language, with the participation of more than 100 speakers from Australia, Greece, the United States and other countries.

The conference is held under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic and has the support of the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

📅 The conference sessions will take place from Monday 7 to Friday 11 September 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Rex Vowels Theatre, UNSW.

Throughout the week, evening cultural events will also take place, including exhibitions, a documentary screening and traditional music and dance performances, all open to the public and free of charge.
