What’s in the box? 📦

A whole lot of connection, safety and opportunity.

Our Community Engagement Coordinator, Frankie, is smiling because inside are 200 prepaid mobile phones generously donated by Good360 Australia for women in our community.

Some phones will support women entering our refuge, helping them stay connected during a critical time. The rest will go to women across our community for everyday essentials like staying in touch with family and support networks, accessing education, applying for jobs and rebuilding independence.

A simple device can make a powerful difference – and we’re incredibly grateful for this generous support.

For Katrina, a First Nations woman living in Gumbaynggirr Country (Coffs Harbour), home and community are deeply intertwined. Growing up by the ocean from the age of eight, she found connection in the local Aboriginal community – even while living off her own Country.

That network of support became life-saving when she faced homelessness. Time in a refuge was “one of the most trying times of my life,” Katrina says. “My community here sustained me in ways I could never have imagined.”

Through Warrina Women's Resource and Information Centre Katrina was nominated for a Women’s Housing Company home – a moment that “changed everything” for her family.

A chance meeting with CEO Nada Nasser led to the program, where Katrina says she realised, “I am not just a DV victim, I am resilient and amazing too.”

Women’s homelessness is often hidden.

It can look like sleeping in cars.

On a friend's couch.

Or staying in unsafe situations because there feels like nowhere else to go.

No one should have to choose between violence and homelessness.

📬 Share this post to help more people understand the reality of women's homelessness in Australia.

“We are not victims. We can and we will rebuild.”

When Shaymaa speaks about her journey, it’s not from a place of defeat. She speaks from strength.

After experiencing violence, she and her daughter faced deep uncertainty. Safety felt out of reach. Stability felt impossible.

“Having a stable home changed everything,” she says. “For the first time in years, we felt safe.”

Through our Transitional Housing Plus program, Shaymaa secured a safe and stable home for up to five years while she was supported to rebuild her confidence, employment skills and readiness for the rental market.

Now thriving, Shaymaa’s story is a reminder that women experiencing homelessness and domestic violence are not defined by what has happened to them. With the right foundation, they can rebuild. Stronger.

This Family Violence Prevention Month, donate to stand alongside women like Shaymaa. Your support creates long-term safety and lasting change for women and children who deserve the chance to begin again.

🏡 A home is more than four walls. It is connection, stability and belonging.

Our innovative Stronger Together program is taking a connection-first approach to shared social housing for older women across Western and Southwestern Sydney, supporting women to form households before moving into safe, long-term homes.

In our latest article, Project Coordinator, Caitlin, shares how the program is helping reduce isolation, improve affordability and support women to rebuild independence.
