CID has position statements that say what we think about certain issues. This is our position statement on health.

People with intellectual disability are not treated the same when it comes to health.

We want all health services to know how to work with people with intellectual disability.

In our position statement on health, we identify how health services can be improved for people with intellectual disability.

Our position statements are also available in Easy Read.

Everyone deserves access to safe, high quality healthcare.

But for many people with intellectual disability, this is not the reality.

People with intellectual disability continue to experience poorer health outcomes and higher rates of avoidable death than the rest of the Australian population.

This ABC story shares the experiences of people with intellectual disability, alongside insights from CID Senior Advocate Jim Simpson, National Centre of Excellence in Intellectual Disability Health Director Julian Trollor and Down Syndrome Australia. It looks at the barriers people with intellectual disability face in healthcare and the ongoing changes needed to improve outcomes.
