Parramatta Young Christian Workers (YCW)

Parramatta Young Christian Workers (YCW) A movement based in Parramatta run by, for and with young workers. In this way the words young, Christian and worker describe three aspects of our reality.

Parramatta YCW offers a range of services to help those in need and to empower young people and adults to engage in their community as leaders and volunteers to make a change. We are inclusive of all peoples from all backgrounds, uniting to promote change in our local community on a person-to-person level. Many people fit in to one of these definitions or perhaps all.

Yesterday, Parramatta YCW’s leaders, volunteers, and workers met with Minister Sophie Cotsis (Minister for Industrial Relations of New South Wales) to discuss the challenges young people are currently facing in the workforce.

We spoke about the growing uncertainty many young people are currently facing around employment and career pathways, especially with the rise of automation and AI, job insecurity, and the pressure of choosing degrees and industries that may rapidly change in the future.

We also discussed the rising costs of education, placement poverty, and entering the workforce, particularly for international students living in Australia who are navigating high living costs alongside study and work pressures.

This was an incredible opportunity to share the lived experiences, fears, and hopes of young people directly with government.

Minister Cotsis has expressed interest in hosting a future roundtable to continue hearing from young people about the realities of entering the workforce and to explore ideas that could better support young workers and students.

Thank you to the Minister for taking the time to listen to our stories, concerns, and experiences, and for giving YCW the opportunity to showcase the incredible work of our volunteers and leaders.

If you’d like to be involved in the future roundtable, or want to share your own experiences about work, study, or the pressures young people are facing today, we would love to hear from you!! Shoot us a DM or email us at [email protected]

WOOOOO! 🌿✨

Massive thank you to all our incredible volunteers who cleaned up along Parramatta River yesterday! We spent the morning walking together, collecting rubbish, enjoying the fresh air and doing our little bit to care for our community and environment 💚

At YCW, we believe social justice can look like a lot of different things, and sometimes it’s as simple as showing up with good people and helping keep our shared spaces clean 🌏😌

If you wanna get involved in more volunteering initiatives, social events, and community action, hit us up! We’ve always got something happening 👀

Join us for a very special movie night! If you’re looking for something meaningful to do this Reconciliation Week, we’ll be screening “In My Blood It Runs”.

This movie is an incredibly powerful film following a young Aboriginal boy named Dujuan, who is growing up between two worlds, navigating culture, identity, school, and family. Also, for every single attendee we get, all proceeds go to First Nations charities! 🖤❤️🧡

Let’s all enjoy a cosy night in during this winter and join other young people to connect, learn, and reflect on our efforts towards reconciliation and safety for our Indigenous youth.

Snacks and good vibes included! Registration in the bio!! ✨
