How we speak about addiction can transform understanding and open pathways to support.

Turning Point, in partnership with Common Cause Australia, has created Framing Addiction & Dependence — a message guide built on the voices of more than 2,400 Australians and the expertise of clinicians, researchers, advocates, and people with lived experience.

This free online webinar marks the launch of the guide, with insights from Professor Dan Lubman AM and Mark Chenery on how to use these evidence-based messages to build public understanding, shift harmful narratives, and strengthen support for those experiencing harm.

Whether you work in the alcohol and other drug sector, the wider health field, or have been personally affected by addiction, this is your opportunity to be part of a national conversation on reducing stigma and creating change.

Join us online at 1pm on Tuesday 26 August 2025.

We all want to create a society that respects, values and celebrates everyone regardless of age. We can begin by thinking and talking differently about people as we grow older.

Our new online training on Framing Age will show you how to talk about age, ageing and issues that affect older people in ways that reduce ageist attitudes and behaviours.

We are excited to launch this free training program at the FORUM: A Question of Ageism event tomorrow evening, with our member Glen Eira City Council .

Special guest Mark Chenery of Common Cause Australia, who developed the training, will step us through his in depth research and the power of using values and frames to actively reduce ageist assumptions in our audiences.

It’s a free event, and you can still book a place at www.trybooking.com/CKVMV.

Details on how to access the training coming soon to our website: www.eapn.org.au.

For a human rights movement dedicated to exposing abuses, positive communication does not come naturally. But to make the case for human rights, we cannot rely on fear of a return to the dark past, we need to promise a brighter future.
