Project HoPe Official page for Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic's charitable arm - Project HoPe (Homeless Pets). Project HoPe fits this important niche.

Project HoPe (Homeless Pets) is Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic's charitable arm. Our vision is to vaccinate every homeless pet and provide access to veterinary services among this often-forgotten part of our community. Animals don’t discriminate between rich and poor, healthy and unhealthy and for this reason, they should have equal access to veterinary care and services. As pet owners we have a

very deep bond with our four legged family, and the bond between the homeless and their furry companions is potentially stronger. They spend every minute of their lives with their pets, sharing all of their resources. Through the past year of working closely with the homeless population of Sydney, we’ve seen first-hand that these companions are essential to the wellbeing and indeed the survival of their owners. They provide a source of stability for the people who have no secure shelter, no guaranteed source of food and limited possessions. Most animal care related charities provide adoption services and very few provide for the ongoing care of animals. We’ve expanded Project HoPe to provide crisis accommodation at our clinic for pets of people who are looking for shelter as well as pop-up clinics to increase the regular checkups of underprivileged pets. We’ve constructed kennels at the well-known Jewish House in Bondi, to make what is Sydney’s first pet-friendly crisis centre and there has since been an influx of people escaping domestic violence situations with their pets, who would otherwise not leave such relationships for fear of being separated from their pet. Project HoPe needs your support, so please consider donating funds or time. We welcome you to our fundraising evening at the Courthouse Hotel on Australia St in Newtown this coming Monday 17th November from 6pm where there will be face-painting, a photo booth and plenty of raffle prizes.

Last week, our Project HoPe team provided free veterinary care to the pets of people experiencing homelessness and domestic violence at Mission Australia Housing 🧡🐾

For many rough sleepers, these pets are more than companions. They are family, emotional support, and often the reason they keep fighting through incredibly difficult circumstances.

Through Project HoPe, we provide free health checks, vaccinations, medications, nail clips, dental checks, and more to help protect this incredibly special bond.

If you’d like to support our work, please consider donating via the link in bio 🧡 Every donation genuinely helps.

Our next Project HoPe Pop-up Clinic is coming up on Monday, 11 May 🧡

On the day, our team will be providing free veterinary care to the pets of people experiencing homelessness and domestic violence across Sydney. This includes free health checks, dental checks, vaccinations, microchipping, nail clips, medications, and more.

We are also currently accepting donations to help support the pets and owners who come to us for care. Pet food, blankets, pet clothing, toys, leads, bedding, and other pet essentials are all incredibly appreciated.

Protecting the bond between vulnerable people and their companion animals is something we care deeply about. For many rough sleepers, their pets are their family, their emotional support, and often the reason they keep going through incredibly difficult circumstances. It’s a bond built on unconditional love, loyalty, and survival, and one we believe deserves protection and compassion.

If you would like to help, you can donate now by heading to http://www.projecthope.org.au, by scanning the QR code in the image, or by dropping donations into any Southern Cross Vet clinic at St Peters, Surry Hills, or Bellevue Hill. Just send us a DM beforehand to coordinate your donations.

Even a small $5 donation can go a long way in helping us care for pets in need.

If you would like to organise a donation drop-off, please feel free to send us a DM. We truly appreciate every bit of support. 🐾

At Project HoPe, we see every day how powerful the bond between people and their companion animals can be.

For many individuals experiencing homelessness, their pets are family, emotional support, protection and often their greatest source of comfort during incredibly challenging times. These animals bring stability, purpose and hope when little else feels certain.

Through Project HoPe, and with the support of the Southern Cross Vet team, we provide essential veterinary care including health checks, vaccinations, medications and ongoing treatment. Every consult helps safeguard not just an animal’s wellbeing but also the dignity and emotional strength of the person who loves them.

By caring for these pets, we are protecting a bond that can truly change lives. 🧡🐾

Mel and her beautiful girl, Sprinkles 🧡

Last month, Mel visited our Project HoPe Pop-Up Clinic at Mission Australia with her sweet cat, Sprinkles. She needed some extra attention, and earlier this week Mel brought her in to see Dr Louis for further testing, including blood samples to guide her ongoing care.

Every consult, every test and every treatment is being fully covered by Project HoPe.

For many people experiencing homelessness, their companion animal is their family. They are comfort, stability and often the one steady presence in an otherwise uncertain world. We have seen time and again how these pets help protect their owners from isolation, substance dependence and even thoughts of su***de. The bond is real, powerful and lifesaving.

Through Project HoPe, we strive to protect that bond. By providing free veterinary care, we help ensure pets like Sprinkles stay healthy — and that their humans don’t have to choose between their own survival and their animal’s wellbeing.

If you would like to support this work and help us care for more pets in need, please consider making a donation today.

✨ Mardi Gras at Southern Cross Vet ✨

We’re inviting our community to come together for a joyful Mardi Gras evening celebrating pets, their people and the beautiful bond they share.

This is a relaxed, inclusive night where you’re welcome to dress up your furry companion in Mardi Gras–inspired outfits and enjoy a fun evening together. Whether your pet goes all out in colour or keeps it subtle, it’s all about personality, connection and having a bit of fun.

On the night, we’ll be running a Best Dressed Duo raffle, so bring your creativity along. There’ll also be snacks and drinks for our human guests, plus treats for the pets — because no one should miss out.

The $15 registration fee supports Project HoPe, our charity that provides free veterinary care to the companion animals of people experiencing homelessness in Sydney. For many rough sleepers, their pets are their family, their comfort and often their reason to keep going. By attending, you’re helping protect that bond and ensure these animals receive the care they deserve.

It’s a night about colour, community and compassion — celebrating Mardi Gras while giving back in a meaningful way.

Today, our team from Southern Cross Veterinary Clinic was honoured to take part in the Monday Hub hosted by St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney through our charity, Project HoPe 🧡

Monday Hub, like the one hosted today, provides a safe and supportive space where people experiencing homelessness can access essential services including housing, legal support and medical care. Through Project HoPe, we ran a Pop-up veterinary clinic on site, offering free veterinary care for companion animals belonging to rough sleepers. This included health checks, vaccinations, medications and general support.

For many people doing it tough, their pet is not just an animal — they are family. Often, they are a source of stability, purpose and comfort, helping keep their humans connected to life during incredibly challenging times. By caring for these pets, we help protect a bond that can be deeply grounding and, in some cases, truly life-saving 🐾

Project HoPe exists to ensure animals don’t suffer due to their owner’s circumstances, and to preserve the powerful human–animal bond wherever it’s needed most. 🙌🏼

If you’d like to support this work and help us continue running pop-up clinics like this, donations of any size make a real difference:

As the year comes to a close, we’re thinking about the pets who don’t get a warm bed, a full bowl or a quiet Christmas.

Project HoPe exists to make sure pets belonging to people experiencing homelessness or escaping domestic violence still receive the care they need — especially at this time of year. Every donation helps us provide veterinary treatment, comfort and a little bit of dignity when it matters most.

If you’re able to give this festive season, your kindness can make a real difference to a pet who relies entirely on us.

You can donate now by heading to https://projecthope.org.au/donate-now/

Thank you for supporting Project HoPe and for helping us end the year with compassion 🧡🐾

Helping Pets and Pet Owners in Need 🧡🐶

At Southern Cross Vet, protecting our city’s most vulnerable is part of who we are, and that’s exactly why we started Project HoPe (Homeless Pets).

At a recent pop-up event with St Vincent’s near Sydney Central, Dr Sam met this sweet pup who hadn’t been vaccinated and was at risk of catching serious diseases like parvovirus and kennel cough. We invited his owner to visit our clinic so we could get his vaccinations up to date and help keep him healthy and by his owner’s side, because every companion deserves care no matter their circumstances.

Project HoPe was created to protect the powerful bond between people experiencing homelessness or domestic violence and their beloved pets. Your support helps us keep tails wagging and hearts full this season.

Even a small donation, as little as $10, can help us make a difference for pets and their people. Visit our website and click Donate to support Project HoPe.
