Big, positive news: Māori voter enrolment for the 2026 General Election has surged, and it’s making headlines back home.

📊 565,000+ people of Māori descent are now enrolled

📊 309,600+ (55%) are on the Māori roll
📊 60,000+ enrolled, updated, or switched rolls in just the last few months, well above 2023 levels

Reporting on the surge is calling out something special: Māori living overseas, across Australia, the UK, Europe and Asia, are enrolling in growing numbers. That’s us. Whānau here in Sydney are part of the story making news in Aotearoa right now.

SURGE: Labour has moved ahead of National on managing New Zealand’s biggest issues, according to a new poll.

The poll found Labour has overtaken National on economic management, an area traditionally viewed as one of the party’s biggest strengths.

The result comes as New Zealanders continue to rank the cost of living, housing and the economy among their top concerns.

National entered government in 2023 promising to rebuild the economy and ease financial pressure on households.

However, frustration over slow economic growth and ongoing affordability pressures appears to be affecting voter sentiment.

Labour leader Chris Hipkins has argued the Government has failed to deliver meaningful improvements for everyday Kiwis.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has defended his Government’s record, saying its policies are focused on long-term economic growth and improving living standards.

With the 2026 election approaching, both Labour and National will be looking to win support on the issue that matters most to voters, mainly the economy.
