Last Thursday, nine Year 5 students represented Taabinga State School at the Regional Youth Parliament in Bundaberg. The Youth Parliament program is an initiative created by Queensland Government to give students the opportunity to gain a hands-on understanding of Queensland’s parliamentary process. In a mock Parliament sitting, students are assigned roles with Parliament to complete throughout the day. Our nine students were assigned positions from Youth Leader of the House to debating Government Motions and Private Members that raised state issues to be considered. The selected students were required to research topics, develop and present a one-minute speech while upholding the respect and etiquette of Parliament.
Finn, Lachlan, Charli, Caitlin, Luxe, Sophie, Brooklyn, Alleah and Oliver should be congratulated not only on the quality of their speeches, and presentation skills but also on their respect towards other students and their etiquette on the day. Congratulations to all students involved.
