With great sadness, we have learned of the passing of a longstanding member, Fred Davies.

Fred served the community in his multiple brigade role over many years; as Talbot Captain, Secretary, and Deputy Group Officer (Tullaroop Group).

The brigade extends condolences and appreciation to Fred's family and friends.

In December 1998, five CFA (Country Fire Authority) firefighters lost their lives fighting a bushfire in Linton, 150km west of Melbourne.

This tragic event rocked the firefighting community. To recognise the sacrifice of those firefighters, and the work of firefighters around the world, International Firefighters' Day was established in 1999.

The date, 4 May, was chosen to coincide with St Florian's Day - the patron saint of firefighters.

Day and night - in the heat, cold or rain - firefighters answer the call to assist our communities every day of the year.

Today, we're thinking about what they give up to protect lives and property.

Thank you CFA (Country Fire Authority), Forest Fire Management Victoria and Fire Rescue Victoria for everything you do to help keep Victorians safe ❤️💙

The Goldfields Community Connect group gave us a lovely thank you for helping out with their very successful Easter event. The appreciation was all ours because the event was such a pleasure to be part of.

Of course, we never miss an opportunity for recruitment. Some of those local kids will become our future CFA volunteers. While we're waiting for the kids to grow up, we've already recruited a couple of their parents! Community helping community, it's what it's all about.

It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that Yazrena Milne passed away this morning.

Yazrena served the community for 11 years as a Talbot CFA member and Secretary, alongside her husband Malcolm, an ongoing member and former Lieutenant.

Our thoughts are with the family at this time.

Vale Yazrena.

Happy Easter all! From Talbot CFA, we hope you enjoy a wonderful and safe holiday weekend.

The Bunny thumbed a lift on Talbot Tanker 2, making its way to Adelaide Lead Hall to meet a big crowd of local kids and parents. A lot of laughter and chocolate. A great community event - a credit to the organisers and everyone there.

A reminder that Fire Danger Period ends for Central Goldfields on 7th April.

This is NOT a magical date after which all fires are safe. Despite the green, there is still a lot of flammable vegetation in the landscape. Please be very cautious if you are planning any burn offs. Have plenty of water and fire fighting equipment at hand. Don't light up on windy days. Keep a close watch on your fire until it is completely extinguished.

The brigade gets called to too many escaped burn offs at this time of year. This is the sort of thing we hear, "The fire was pretty much burnt out, so I went inside for a cuppa. When I came back out the fire had crept into the grass and it just took off!"

Remember, if you light it, you own it.

Just a heads-up about a planned burn set to kick off tomorrow at Red Lion. The smoke plume will likely be quite large.

Please be mindful of this before reporting to triple-zero.

We’re currently doing planned burning to keep Victoria safer from bushfires.

Want to receive a text or email when planned burns are happening near you?

Sign up for alerts on the Planned Burns Victoria website www.vic.gov.au/plannedburns.

If weather and forest conditions are right, firefighters will light the following burns this week:

📍Red Lion – Howden Track (254 hectares)
📍Glenlyon – Up and Down Track (381 hectares)
📍Big Hill – High Level Track (48 hectares)

Without planned burning and other fuel management works, bushfires will be bigger and harder for our firefighters to control.

🔥You may see or smell smoke.
👀 Watch for our crews and follow their directions.
📞 If you experience symptoms that may be due to smoke exposure, please seek medical advice or call NURSE-ON-CALL on 1300 60 60 24.
🌐Detailed information about current air quality throughout Victoria can be found at www.epa.vic.gov.au

Unexpected weather conditions can mean plans change at the last minute and a burn may not go ahead, even if communities have already been notified. When this happens, our crews will continue to monitor the conditions and re-schedule the burn for a later date.
