In the coming weeks Council will commence a trial of new traffic calming measures in Bellbridge and Tallangatta. The trial is in response to community feedback, concerns and reports to Councillors about vehicle speeds.

The trial will include wide, low-profile rubberised speed humps and warning signs at Bellbridge (Lake Road and near the Boat Club entrance) and Tallangatta (three locations along Queen Elizabeth Drive).

The trial will allow Council to assess traffic conditions, including busy periods. Speed monitoring and traffic counters will be used to help assess the effectiveness of the measures with variable message signs (VMS) used to notify motorists of the changed traffic conditions.

There may be slight delays during installation. Installation is expected to commence from 7 September in Tallangatta and 14 September in Bellbridge.

If the trial is successful, Council will consider making the traffic calming measures permanent. A further opportunity for community feedback will be provided during the trial.

Following in-person community consultation sessions in August, Council is continuing to explore how community programs and neighbourhood house activities could be delivered across the Upper Murray.

This includes considering whether services could operate from the proposed integrated services hub at the former Corryong Junior Campus.

We want to hear what mattered to you about the former Corryong Neighbourhood Centre, what the community needs now and what you would like to see in the years ahead.

Eames Architects has been appointed to assist Council with community engagement and visioning for the new Neighbourhood House program.

This survey is part of the ongoing consultation and takes about 10 minutes to complete. You're welcome to complete this survey regardless of whether you attended the in person sessions.

The survey will be open until 15 September 2026. We appreciate your feedback that will help shape the structure and vision of possible Neighbourhood House services.

Replacement works for the heritage lights on Banool Road and at The Triangles in Tallangatta are set to commence next week.

Following the failure of one of the existing posts, Council responded to community feedback by making the decision to replace all six lights, rather than just replacing the one that had failed.

The project will see the six existing light fittings and posts removed, with the light components refurbished and installed on six new cast alloy steel posts. The new powder-coated posts have been designed to match the original 1950s posts, including the glass fittings, while using durable materials to ensure their longevity. Final trim colours are subject to confirmation.

New footings and electrical works will also be completed as part of the project. The installation is expected to take up to six weeks, with the lights to be commissioned once works are complete.

We appreciate the community's patience, as we acknowledge the replacement has taken longer than initially expected.

Council is pleased to announce it has successfully secured $243,583 through the Victorian Government's Country Football and Netball Program to deliver a lighting upgrade at the Corryong Recreation Reserve.

The project will also be supported through funding from Council and a range of community groups.

The lighting upgrade will help enhance the reserve for local clubs and the wider community, supporting safer and more accessible use of the facilities.

Further details about the project and construction timeline will be shared soon.

With much regret, Council advises that the servery window at the Container Cafรฉ has failed again, resulting in the temporary closure of the cafรฉ.

We understand how disappointing and frustrating this situation is for both the operators, Bridge & Brew, and the community. We share that frustration, particularly as the recent repairs were undertaken through a warranty claim and Council was assured that the completed works were fit for purpose.

Unfortunately, despite those repairs, the window has failed again after only a short period of operation.

Council is now actively investigating an alternative solution that provides a reliable, safe, and long-term outcome. This is likely to involve removing the existing servery window and replacing it with a new structure designed to better meet the operational needs of the facility.

We are working to implement this solution as quickly as possible and minimise disruption to the operators and the community.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and thank the community for its patience and understanding while we work towards a permanent resolution. Council will provide a further update on progress, including anticipated reopening arrangements, as soon as more information becomes available.
