Although fire restrictions have now ended for Towong Shire, we are still required to keep our burn offs safe and legal. Please see below advice from CFA.

Keep you burn-off safe and legal:
• Check fire restrictions with your local council and register your burn online at www.firepermits.vic.gov.au or phone 1800 668 511
• Check and monitor weather conditions – particularly wind
• To avoid unnecessary calls to emergency services, notify your neighbours beforehand
• Leave a three metre fire break, free from flammable materials around the burn
• Have sufficient equipment and water to stop the fire spreading
• Never leave a burn-off unattended – stay for its entire duration
• If your burn-off gets out of control, call ‘000’ immediately

Tallangatta Fire Brigade is the very grateful recipient of two of these amazing pumps, donated by Icon CCB. Photos are Noel Biltris and Captain Geoff Love, and the brigade members. These pumps will speed the filling of the trucks when we're in the field, making it faster for our response and continued fire attack activities. The pumps feature a direct drive impeller that is put into the water and sucks directly with no need to prime anything. Capable of 55,000L per hour these are an exciting addition to our equipment. Thanks Icon CCB!

A poem to Tallangatta and our loved ones on Valentine's Day:

Fire is red
Water is blue
We put one on the other
And we do it for you

It's been a busy 24 hours for your local brigade, starting with multiple pages after midnight due to lightning strikes. The Tallangatta Tanker and Ultralight headed up Yabba Rd and up into the hills to tackle a going grass and scrub fire. With the arrival of other brigades, the FFMV team and many locals in their private appliances we collectively extinguished the fire and blacked it out, finishing as the sun rose. Off for a well earned breakfast only to be sent out to Jarvis Creek for another fire. This one was deep in the bush and we left it for FFMV to take on, returning to station for a rest.

This afternoon the tanker was paged out to a serious fire in Wodonga and the crew are still there. Big shoutout to all the the firefighters turning out and a pat on the back for Todd Crawshaw performing an excellent job as Incident Controller over night.

And video of the big skycrane filling up from a nearby dam.to fight the Charleroi fire. We were joined by Kiewa and Sandy Creek/Charleroi Brigades yesterday plus a couple of dozers that made a big difference to the firefighting work.

Here are some photos from the fire at Charleroi yesterday from BirdDog 375, affectionately known as Firebird 309 with Helitak 342. This aerial firefighting is critical to our success in such difficult to reach places. We gratefully acknowledge the hard work by the air teams and it really lifts the spirits to hear the choppers coming in.

While this fire continues to burn, Tallangatta CFA Brigade is fully crewed up for strike teams and for local fire protection. We want to thank the legends from RFS, the ACT Fire Service and the hay runners. Awesome to see all the tents on Rowan Park, to watch the different trucks from all the fire services rolling out and the hundreds of volunteers giving their time and effort.

If you hear the siren don't panic - we're ready to go.
