Our firefighters face bushfires, house fires and complex road-crash rescues. They show up with courage and bravery in the face of uncertainty - a true testament to their character.

No registration required — just come along and contribute your knowledge and experiences.

What we’ll be talking about:

🚜 Machinery-related ignition risks
🌡️ Weather, operating conditions and workforce pressures
🧯 Practical prevention opportunities
🤝 Communication, support and industry collaboration
💡 Ideas for improving guidance, preparedness and safety

These discussions will focus on prevention and risk reduction, not emergency response.

The conversations will help shape practical guidance, improve communication, and strengthen partnerships between growers, industry, local governments and DFES.

Crews from Tambellup Volunteer Fire and Emergency Service, Katanning Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service and Gnowangerup Volunteer State Emergency Service Unit Inc. came together today for a road crash rescue skills refresher, keeping our skills sharp to help keep our communities safe. 🚒

Today, on International Women’s Day, we’re proud to recognise all the incredible women in our teams, both on the frontline and behind the scenes. Their dedication, skills and support play a vital role in everything we do.

Still relevant, even though we’re in autumn 🍂🍁🌞

When you want to mow the lawn but there's a Total Fire Ban (TFB) 🔥

🚩 RED FLAG 🚩

🚩 Firing up a Weber, BBQ, smoker or pizza oven that burns solid or liquid fuel in an area that is not fully enclosed.
🚩 Mowing with equipment powered by an internal combustion engine.
🚩 Off-road driving – using 4WDs, quad bikes, motorcycles and other similar petrol or diesel vehicles over areas containing vegetation.
🚩 Hot works outdoors – including angle grinding, welding, soldering and metal work
🚩 Campfires, bonfires and any open-air fires.

Restrictions apply to the general public, while businesses and industries can proceed under the regulatory framework.

✅ GREEN FLAG ✅

✅ Using gas (enclosed flame) or electric BBQs (no flame) with a five metre clearing around the BBQ at home or signed public BBQ area.
✅ Power tools – as long as the power tool does not create a spark.
✅ Electric and battery-operated lawn mowers can be used as long as they don't create a spark (avoid using on dry grass).
✅ Harvesting is allowed, but only if the local government has not implemented a harvest Vehicle Movement Ban.
✅ Generators in an area clear of vegetation.

Remember the red flags! Failing to follow the rules of a Total Fire Ban could land you a fine of up to $25,000, 12 months in jail, or both.

Today, on Thank a Firey Day, show some love to the legends who run towards danger to keep our loved ones safe 💙

In the past year alone, our career and volunteer firefighters have responded to over 5,700 bushfires, 3,300 road crash rescues, 1,400 structure fires and countless other emergencies across the State, but the numbers don’t tell the full story.

Behind every call-out are hundreds of hours of training, missed family moments and relentless sacrifices, the early starts and quiet acts that often go unseen, like comforting someone on their worst day, teaching kids about fire safety, helping families who’ve lost everything or checking in on a mate doing it tough.

It takes courage, dedication and heart to do this job. It’s a tough gig and they do it to protect their community – time and time again.
