🌱 Wondering what's happening around the new Cedar Party Creek Bridge in Wingham? Work is now underway to restore and improve the surrounding area.

More than 3,400 native rainforest and creek-side plants are being planted along Cedar Party Creek to help restore vegetation and create habitat for local wildlife.

🚐 Work has also started on a new RV and motorhome rest area near Chrissy Gollan Reserve, with landscaping, drainage improvements and upgraded pedestrian access.

🚶 In the future, a new pedestrian path will connect Chrissy Gollan Park with a new park area on the western side of Wingham Road.

This project is part of the Cedar Party Creek Bridge replacement program and was developed in consultation with local community groups including the Wingham Rotary Club, Wingham Business Chamber, Wingham Advancement Group and Wingham Historical Society.

ℹ️ Today’s update from Mayor Claire Pontin
Here is a summary of yesterday’s Council meeting held on Wednesday 27 May.

🌊 The Southern Estuaries Coastal Management Program has been adopted following extensive community consultation over recent years. The 10-year program aims to protect lakes, lagoons and river systems from Wallabi Point to the Karuah River.

✈️ Councillors adopted the Taree Regional Airport Strategy, which will guide the development and focus of the airport over the next 10 years.

📈 An updated Economic Development Strategy 2023–2028 was adopted to provide greater flexibility and reflect emerging trends, challenges and opportunities, as well as the evolving needs of the MidCoast business community.

🛠️ Councillors received an update on the transport recovery program following the May 2025 floods. The scale of the recovery program remains significant, with more than 70 bridges requiring repair work, six bridges needing full replacement, over 100 separate landslip locations and more than 4,000 flood-damaged sections of road. To date, Council has submitted more than $89 million in claims to the NSW Reconstruction Authority for emergency works, immediate reconstruction works and major reconstruction projects. The remaining transport flood recovery program is currently estimated to cost around $230 million.

🏘️ Councillors also endorsed a revised MidCoast Urban Release Areas report to be placed on public exhibition for community feedback.
