NSW RFS - Tathra Brigade

NSW RFS - Tathra Brigade Tathra Vounteer Rural Fire Brigade is part of The NSW Rural Fire Service. In 2011 the Brigades new Station was opened.

Tathra Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade was formed back in 1943, to protect the township of Tathra and surrounds from the threat of Fire.... These days the Brigade plays a role not only in fire protection and mitigation but also assistance in other incidents. The Brigade looks after nearly 50 square km of area including Tathra Town, Wallagoot, Kalaru and Bournda which has a total population of around

2,500 people. The Brigade is involved in many facets, including Fire Suppression (both bush and structural fires), assistance at Motor Vehicle Accidents, Bush Fire Hazard reduction, Fire community education and general assistance to clubs and organisations within the Tathra area. The Tathra Brigade was originally formed in 1945, and nearly 70 years later the Brigade is still going strong. The Station boasts the most modern facilities and equipment and comfortably houses the Brigades two appliance, with room for more appliances well into the future.

🔥 Rocky Hall / Big Jack Fire – CONTAINED to 24 hectares.

Tathra crews assisted a huge effort from firefighters from the NSW RFS and NPWS over recent days, working in challenging conditions and difficult terrain, with support from heavy dozers and aircraft.

We were also lucky enough to see some welcome rain this afternoon.

A big thank you to the local community for your patience and support while crews have been working in the area.

While the fire is contained, crews will continue to monitor and patrol the area. Please continue to stay up to date and remain aware of changing conditions.

Member Profile: Matthew's family settled in the Bega Valley in the 1840s. But he grew up in Sydney, as his parents moved there after marriage. Matthew moved to Canberra to study and then work. He has volunteered in the Solomon Islands and lived and worked in India, Thailand and Melbourne! His work has involved building IT systems, managing projects, and educating children and adults. In 2020, Matthew moved down to Tathra. After the disastrous fires of 2018 and 2020 Matthew decided to join the Tathra RFS Brigade to contribute to the safety and well-being of the community.

Please take extra care with your pile burns this weekend!

🍃Increased Wind Forecast for the Far South Coast🍃

Forecast winds across the Far South Coast are set to increase in the coming days.
This poses risks of escaped pile burns that have been conducted over the last few weeks.

🔭We request that resident check pile burns that have been conducted as we see an increase in wind these can become active.

🤔You should consider the forecast before you light up. It is you're responsibility to use fire safely. Please have a read of Before You Light That Firehttps://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0013/12451/Before-You-Light-That-Fire-AW-Digi.pdf

💸Fine can apply if you fail to notify the RFS or fire leaves your property.
