What a day for HQ at the Northern Beaches District Exercise!!! 🔥🚒💥

Absolutely unreal effort from the whole crew — this is what happens when hard work, teamwork and a bit of competitive fire all come together 💪

The results speak for themselves:

🥇 1st – Portable Pumping Operations
🥇 1st – Village Response Complex
🥇 1st – Tug of War
🥉 3rd – Village Response BAO
🥉 3rd Overall

We couldn’t be prouder of this team — everyone showed up, dug deep and absolutely ripped in. Massive energy all day and it paid off in a big way 👏

HQ showing exactly what we’re about 🔥

Bring on the next one 👊

Today we recognise International Women’s Day and acknowledge the incredible contribution of the women in our brigade.

At Northern Beaches Headquarters, our female members serve across a wide range of roles — from frontline firefighting and incident management to communications, logistics, training and community engagement. Their professionalism, leadership and commitment strengthen our brigade and help ensure we continue to serve the community to the highest standard.

Emergency services are strongest when everyone brings their skills, experience and perspective to the table. The women of HQ demonstrate every day that capability, resilience and teamwork are what define a brigade.

Thank you for everything you do for the brigade, the district and the community.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Marie Bashir.

Marie Bashir’s life was defined by service, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the people of New South Wales. Her legacy as a trailblazer, advocate, and unifying leader will endure well beyond her years.

Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this difficult time. May she rest in peace.

On behalf of the family of Dame Marie Bashir, I am saddened to share the news of her passing.

Married to Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC OBE for 61 years, and a deeply loved mother of three children and six grandchildren, Dame Marie was an extraordinary Australian and one of New South Wales’ most respected public servants.

On behalf of the people of New South Wales, I extend my deepest condolences to Dame Marie’s family, friends and all those who were inspired by her remarkable life.

Dame Marie Bashir served our state with distinction as the first female Governor of NSW from 2001 to 2014, bringing to the role immense dignity and compassion.

Reflecting on her 14 years as Governor, Dame Marie Bashir explained that she deliberately chose not to extend her tenure beyond that point, despite being widely respected, because she did not wish to surpass Sir Roden Cutler as the longest-serving Governor.

It was a decision that reflected her humility and deep respect for those who came before her.

She was a distinguished psychiatrist and a long-standing advocate for mental health, education and social inclusion.

The people of New South Wales held Dame Marie in great respect and affection, reflecting the trust and goodwill she earned over a lifetime of service.

In recognition of her extraordinary contribution to our state and nation, a State Funeral will be held in honour of Dame Marie Bashir. Details will be provided in due course.

ADVICE: Barrenjoey Trk, Palm Beach (Northern Beaches LGA)

Firefighters are currently responding to a bush fire burning in the vicinity of the Barrenjoey Lighthouse at Palm Beach, in Sydney's north. Those in the area are advised to delay any plans to visit the lighthouse until after the fire is brought under control by crews.
