💧 Rain is a comin'! 💧

Get ahead of the rain and prepare your home.

If you need sandbags to divert water there is a fresh sand drop at North Narrabeen Surf Life Saving Club carpark and North Curl Curl Abbots Rd Denzil Joyce Oval carpark

Sandbags and shovels are available. Please leave the shovels for the next person!

To divert water in a hurry:
✅find a large piece of plastic or tarp
✅open it up and lay thick towels, garden potting mix bags, basically something thick and chunky along the plastic
✅roll it up into a sausage shape
✅shape it as needed to divert water

Make your own sandbags:
🌨️use shopping bags and fill with soil from the garden OR potting mix bags
🌨️place a large piece of plastic or tarp over the area likely to flood ie some on the ground and some going up the wall or door, ensure you cover either side of the door (large bin liners cut open will work). See photo below
🌨️place your makeshift sandbags on top
🌨️stamp out any air gaps

Shout out to all the volunteers!

Across the country we rely on volunteers for sports clubs, listening to kids reading groups, school canteens, supporting seniors needs and of course NSW SES and our colleagues in RFS, Marine Rescue and Surf Life Saving.

All these volunteers give up countless hours each year to make the lives of others a little better, safer or easier.

Thank you to all who volunteer.

Our hearts and thoughts are with our fellow volunteers at Marine Rescue and the Ballina community today.

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

“These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

“We ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.
