Queensland Day marks the historic moment on 6 June 1859 when Queensland started to chart its own course away from NSW by becoming an independent colony.

It's a day of state pride and a chance to celebrate the people, places and communities that make Queensland what it is today.

And here in Noosa, we have plenty to be proud of. Tells us in the comments what you love about Queensland.

From world-class beaches and a stunning hinterland to a community that rolls up its sleeves to care for the environment and each other, Noosa is a special place to call home.

Today, we're celebrating the natural beauty, community spirit and laid-back lifestyle that make Noosa such a unique part of Queensland.

Happy Queensland Day, Noosa!

This World Environment Day, we're celebrating Noosa's enduring dedication to preserving our unique natural environment.

And thanks to the collective efforts of our community, volunteers, and environmental groups, we’re making real progress toward a healthier, more resilient future.

Here’s what we’ve achieved together so far:

🌿 43% of Noosa Shire (that’s 34,499 hectares!) is already managed for its environmental values, and we’re on track to reach our goal of 48% by 2028.

🌳 121 hectares secured for conservation: We've purchased a Kin Kin property on the Cootharaba Range using Environment Levy funds, permanently protecting critical habitat for Koalas, Greater Gliders and Powerful Owls.

🌱 Over $1.78 million in environmental grants have been invested and supported community-driven projects since 2019.

🦜 467 Land for Wildlife properties and 25 conservation agreements are helping to protect local biodiversity and create wildlife corridors.

🙋 Bushcare volunteers have planted 11,200+ native plants and removed more than 1,200m³ of invasive weeds.

♻️ 44,690 tonnes of waste diverted from landfill in a year thanks to better recycling and recovery efforts.

🤝 We’re also progressing the implementation plan for our historic Kabi Kabi First Nations agreement, acknowledging and embedding Traditional Owner values into how we care for Country.

🌊 Climate resilience programs are helping our community prepare for future challenges, from coastal erosion to extreme weather.

🌲 Four trees within Noosa Shire have recently been recognised as Queensland champion trees on the National Register of Big Trees Australia, including a Eucalyptus grandis estimated to be around 500 years old.

🐢 This season saw a record number of sea turtle nests recorded on Noosa North Shore.

🌊 Our Environmental Services Team completed AUSMAP microplastics assessment training, strengthening efforts to monitor plastic pollution and help protect Noosa’s waterways and marine environment.

Big or small, every action adds up. This , we say thank you to everyone for your contribution to a green and resilient Noosa.

As we wrap up another sea turtle nesting season, we're celebrating a record number of nests on Noosa North Shore. 🐢💚

Daily patrols along the Eastern Beaches recorded another strong nesting year, while increased monitoring efforts on Noosa North Shore revealed a record number of nests - the highest ever recorded.

A huge thank you to the volunteers from Coolum & North Shore Coast Care and the Teewah Turtle Trackers, whose early morning beach patrols, nest monitoring, and conservation work help protect our littlest locals.

Don't bin your batteries at home! ❌

Did you know there were more than 200 battery-related fires reported during the last 12 months in Queensland? 🔋🔥

When batteries are compacted or punctured in waste trucks or at recycling facilities, they can start fires, emit toxic gases and cause acid burns.

Batteries can be found in many everyday items including toothbrushes, vapes, e-scooters and e-bikes, mobile phones, power tools.

📍E-waste and battery drop-off locations:
• Cooroy & Noosaville Libraries
• Noosa Leisure Centre
• Noosa Aquatic Centre
• Noosa Council Customer Service Centre, Tewantin
• Doonan Resource Recovery Centre
• Pomona Waste Transfer Station
• Cooroy Waste Transfer Station

➡️ Or find your nearest collection point by using the Recycle Mate app.

For more info on how to dispose of your waste safely, see here: https://bit.ly/4j6fv4Z

Council Budget | The changing landscape for 2026–27 Budget.

Much of the budget conversation is about how to keep delivering current services, as costs keep climbing alongside the current global uncertainty.

This is shaping up to be one of the toughest Council budgets in recent years. Councillors will meet on 23 June to adopt the budget.

Increasing fuel, labour, and materials costs are all impacting the delivery of essential services and maintaining infrastructure.

In this video series, hear directly from councillors as they share how the 2026-27 budget is shaped and the careful decisions involved in delivering the best outcomes for our community. 🎥💬
