See how Precinct 4 candidates answered our question about transportation and roadway investments. We believe understanding their vision is crucial as we approach the primary election. Scroll through to see a summary of their key ideas, and be sure to check out the full questionnaire responses for a deeper dive. ↗

The question: In the 2023 Travis County transportation bond, the majority of funding was allocated to roadway expansions. Rethink35 and other organizations, businesses, and leaders have opposed such expansions as merely encouraging more driving, doing little or nothing for congestion, and worsening pollution and safety.
What are your views on roadway expansions?
How should Travis County prioritize investments across roadway projects, public transit, active transportation (walking and biking) in future bonds?

TONIGHT at 6 pm CT: The Alexander Farm is hosting a film screening of Jordan Peele’s docuseries, “High Horse: The Black Cowboy” that features the farm’s history. RSVP at TheAlexanderFarm1847.org/contact-us

The Alexander Farm, a historic African American family farm and cemetery, is threatened by the 183 South expansion plan. The farm is Travis county’s oldest Black-owned farm, founded by Daniel Alexander, a racehorse breeder and trainer who moved to the county in January 1839. The adjacent Alexander Cemetery has been designated a historic cemetery by the Texas Historical Commission. Last year, Rethink35 had the pleasure of having Roz Alexander, the descendant and owner of the farm as our panelist during the Highway Displacement event series.

📢 Take action and sign our petition against the 183 expansion today. Link in bio.

You can also find the docuseries on NBC Universal’s Peacock

The Texas Department of Transportation is developing the Texas Statewide Multimodal Transit Plan 2050!
This plan is about creating a network of transportation options that let Texans move freely, not just more highways and car lanes.
Some highlights:
• 86% of respondents said better transit is essential
• Prioritizes intercity connections, rural access, funding flexibility, and integrated design
• Includes plans for a statewide transit hub network and trip planning app
The plan shows that community feedback matters. Speaking up and demanding better transportation options pushes TxDOT to think beyond highways and invest in real mobility solutions.
There is still a lot of work to do, but we are excited to see TxDOT take this important step in the right direction!
Go to our linktree in our bio to find the survey. We suggest choosing the “Identify options to increase flexibility of funding sources” as highest priority.
