BBQ Safety

BBQ fires can happen all year round.
Follow these tips to make sure everything is safe before firing up the barbie:

Check for Gas Leaks: Always inspect gas cylinders for leaks by applying soapy water to the hose and regulator connections. If bubbles appear, it indicates faulty equipment that needs repair or replacement.

Maintain Barbecues: Keep barbecues in proper shape by cleaning surfaces and preventing build-up of grease, oils, and other substances that might help a fire to spread swiftly.

Positioning: Place your barbecue in an open, well-ventilated area away from structures, trees, or overhanging branches. Maintain a safe distance of 3 meters from the outer perimeter of the barbecue.

Safety Equipment: Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it. Water should never be used to extinguish a grease fire; use baking soda, a bucket of sand, or an appropriate fire extinguisher instead.

Fire Danger Period: During the Fire Danger Period, you are not allowed to light a fire or use a BBQ for cooking unless you follow the rules set by the CFA.

By following these tips, you can enjoy barbecuing safely and responsibly, ensuring the safety of you and your guests.
