Annual VIC Community Growing Conference

The Annual VIC Community Growing Conference, proudly presented by CGA in partnership with Grow It Local, Yarra Ranges Council, Gardens for Harvest, and Permaculture Australia,
is a one-day celebration of everything that makes community food growing powerful, practical and deeply connected.
Held at the Civic Centre in Lilydale, the day begins with a Welcome to Country, grounding us in place and purpose before we dive into a program designed to inspire both new and experienced growers alike.
We’re thrilled to feature Dr Mary Cole presenting “Weeds Are Friends, Not Enemies! – How Weeds Improve Soils”, challenging us to rethink what’s growing in our gardens and discover the hidden gifts of so-called weeds. Marilyn Lambert will share practical insights on sharing excess produce and strengthening local food networks, reminding us that gardens thrive when communities do. Over a delicious lunch, you’ll enjoy vibrant market stalls, connect with fellow growers, and exchange ideas that can spark new projects in your own gardens.
The afternoon turns to action and opportunity. Learn how to harvest the support your garden needs — from partnerships to practical resources — and then head outdoors for a guided tour of Lilydale Community Garden, or stay inside for a wicking bed workshop with Mr Fox In A Box.
Whether you’re a long-time community gardener, a curious beginner, or someone dreaming of starting a garden in your neighbourhood or backyard, this conference will leave you energised, connected, and equipped with fresh ideas. Come ready to learn, share, and grow — together.
Morning tea and lunch will be provided.
Please bring your own water bottle, keep cup and bag for some goodies. Also as we will be heading outdoors, dress appropriately for the weather on the day. Everyone is welcome. Fully accessible.
Thanks to our sponsors WaterUps, Yarra Ranges Gardens For Harvest, and PiP Magazine for their generous support. Get your tickets via this link:

Volunteering with the Knox Repair Cafe is a rewarding opportunity to:

- Be part of a growing community initiative
- Help reduce waste and promote reuse
- Connect with like-minded people across Knox
- Make a tangible difference in your local area

We would LOVE to hear from anyone who has experience or interest in repairing across any of the following categories:

⚡️ELECTRICAL
🪛GENERAL REPAIRS
⚙️MECHANICAL
🪡FABRIC

Everyone from the pros to hobbyists are welcome!

Tag your favourite tinkerer in the comments or send them this post. Maybe someone hemmed some outrageously long pants for you, or fixed your toilet-dropped tamagotchi? We want to hear from them!

Thinking ahead for the upcoming months... did you know you might already be sitting on the most cost-effective heater in your home?

We sat down with energy legend Tim Forcey (), and he dropped this absolute gem.

Most of us think of our air cons as 'cooling only,' but using them to heat your home is a total game-changer for your comfort, and your bank account.

It’s time to ditch the gas and lean into the tools we already have!

Tim’s Top Tips for a Cozy (and Cheap) Home:
- Seal the Leaks: Draught-proof those doors and windows.
- Insulation is Key: Check your roof, it’s the 'hat' that keeps your home's temperature steady.
- Renter Hack: Bubble-wrap your windows in winter to trap heat. It sounds wild, but it works!

Have you made the switch to heating with your AC yet? Tell us if you've noticed the difference in your bills!
