πŸŽ‰ Happy Queensland Day! πŸŽ‰

Today we celebrate Queensland Day, the official birthday of our great state.
Queensland Day is held each year on 6 June and marks an important moment in our history. On this day in 1859, Queen Victoria signed the Letters Patent that separated Queensland from New South Wales, establishing Queensland as its own self-governing colony.
For those of us who call Queensland home, it's a chance to reflect on what makes our state so special. From our beautiful landscapes and rich history to our strong communities and unique way of life, Queensland is a wonderful place to live, learn and grow.
We are proud to be Queenslanders and grateful to be part of such a vibrant and welcoming community.

Maroon pride, community spirit and Queensland heart – Happy Queensland Day everyone!

πŸ“šπŸŒŸ Premier's Reading Challenge 2026 πŸŒŸπŸ“š

Have you started your Premier's Reading Challenge reading yet?

We encourage all students and families to get involved in this wonderful opportunity to develop a love of reading while working towards a special achievement.

Every student who completes the challenge and returns their completed Reader Record Form will receive a Certificate of Achievement to celebrate their reading success. πŸŽ‰

There is also an exciting opportunity for our school! Schools that achieve 100% student participation (or come close to it) go into the draw to win prizes and are recognised on the Hall of Fame webpage.

Let's work together to set a new school record and show what enthusiastic readers we are! πŸ“–βœ¨

If your child wishes to participate in the Premier's Reading Challenge, please ensure they complete their Reader Record Form throughout the reading period and return the completed form to the school by 31 August 2026. If you need another form, please contact the school.

Happy reading everyone! πŸ“šπŸ’™

πŸ“’ Public Holiday Reminder πŸ“’

A reminder to families that Wednesday 3 June is the Emerald Show Public Holiday, so there will be no school for students on this day.

If you're heading along to the Emerald Show, be sure to stop by and check out our fantastic school display! This year's theme is "Gems of the Central Highlands", showcasing the creativity, talent and hard work of our students.

A huge thank you to our amazing students and staff who generously gave up their time yesterday to help create and set up the display. Your dedication and teamwork have resulted in something truly special, and we can't wait for the community to see it.

We hope everyone enjoys the show and has a wonderful public holiday! πŸ’Žβœ¨

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) 2026 took place across Australia today at 12pm, featuring the joyful children’s book Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller. Over two million children read the same story at exactly the same time, celebrating Australian authors, literacy, and community.

The story was read by the authors, Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, and our students loved their enthusiasm and passion throughout the reading. Illustrator Jake A. Minton then guided everyone through a directed drawing of Luna, which we are all excited to try in our classrooms!

It was wonderful to be part of the national livestream event. The story was also made available in Auslan and with captions in multiple languages, allowing even more children to be included in this fantastic celebration of literacy and storytelling. πŸ“šπŸ¦˜βš½

What a fantastic way to share a love of books and reading together! πŸ“šπŸ¦˜βš½

🌟 Under 8s Day Fun! 🌟

Last Friday our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students travelled into town to attend Under 8s Day at Dennison State School β€” thank you for hosting such a wonderful event!

Our students enthusiastically joined in a huge range of activities throughout the day including face painting, visiting the petting zoo with an alpaca, goats, chickens, ducks, guinea pigs and kittens, and learning about important community services.

Students had their vitals checked by the ambulance service, explored inside the ambulance, practised CPR on dummies and even had the chance to lift some very heavy firefighting equipment! A delicious tuckshop lunch and bus ride with fancy blue lights added even more excitement to an already amazing day.

The children had so much fun and were very excited to experience all the activities on offer.

Under 8s Day is a state-wide event coordinated by Early Childhood Australia (ECA), celebrating the importance of early learning and development through play-based activities, community gatherings and local school events.

Thank you to everyone involved in making the day such a memorable experience for our students! πŸ’™
