Burrima Boardwalk

Burrima Boardwalk The 'Burrima' boardwalk is a 2km walkway through the iconic Macquarie Marshes in western NSW. This is required as the Boardwalk is located on private property.

"Burrima" is a property in the Macquarie Marshes which is leased and managed by the Macquarie Wetlands Association, a local environmental charity. The boardwalk was built as a collaborative initiative, and is now operated and managed by the Association. Ensure you have pre-registered on our website for access as phone reception is limited in the Macquarie Marshes.

This time of year is the perfect time for a trip to the boardwalk. The water is beginning to recede and the flowers and birds are out in droves.

PLEASE NOTE
There was a storm on Sunday night which has made a bit of a mess and caused slight damage to some of the structures. It was inspected yesterday and we are happy to say that the Boardwalk remains OPEN.

The Boardwalk and rest area are both safe following a preliminary cleanup and small repairs. If you are out visiting, please be aware of any twigs and sticks that may still be on the walkway. There is a short section of kickrail missing which will be repaired shortly. And as always, bring water, sun protection and watch for snakes.

There are patches of reeds which have been bent over the Boardwalk by strong winds, but that's part of the ambience we all love about the Burrima Boardwalk.

REMINDER:
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting an aerial pest control program targeting feral animals in Macquarie Marshes Nature Reserve and Ginghet Nature Reserve.

Dates: Saturday 23 – Sunday 24 March 2024

During this period, you may see a low flying helicopter and hear shooting.

During this time entry into the reserves will not be permitted. However, access to Burrima Boardwalk is still available.

It's great viewing and taking in all Burrima has to offer in this natural ecosystem from our boardwalk platform at ground level, but you can also rise above it slightly and take in the broader view at our observation platform. Or for those who like to soar even higher - enjoy a helicopter ride over Burrima with Northwest Helicopters at our official opening on 21 October with gates open from 9:00am.

Book on the day with Northwest Helicopters at Burrima boardwalk.

There is so much to absorb at the Burrima Boardwalk. If you haven't visited yet why not do so. There will be people on hand to share their knowledge of the ecosystem with you as well as the opportunity to fly above the location in a helicopter.

Did you know the Burrima Boardwalk provides an accessible snapshot of the main vegetation communities of the Macquarie Marshes - dry chenopod shrublands, black box/ Coolabah woodlands, river red gum forest, and a small part of the Northern Marsh reedbeds – part of the largest reedbed in southern Australia.
The property has been managed in consultation with traditional owners, local landholders, government agencies and land management specialists.

Through the work of the Macquarie Wetlands Association, a greater understanding of the drivers of wetland health has developed and contributed to the maintenance and restoration of the Macquarie Marsh environment on the property.

You might be interested in a soundwalk to take in this amazing natural environment with Goldsmith's Studio - Kim will be hosting a walk for about 1.5 hours. You will need to book for this experience.

Why not come and see all that has been achieved and take in the fabulous atmosphere at our Official Opening from 9:00am on 21 October. Enjoy morning tea before wandering the boardwalk to take in all nature has to offer in this location. For more details visit our website https://burrimamacquariemarshes.com/
