🎉 1 MILLION CONTAINERS PROCESSED 🎉

As of Friday last week, the Containers for Change team has officially processed over

♻️ 1,000,389 ELIGIBLE CONTAINERS ♻️

A huge thank you to our community for collecting and returning eligible containers, and to our incredible staff for their hard work processing and exporting containers back to the mainland for recycling.

Together we’ve achieved:
💚 Over $100,000 returned to community members and charities
💚 More than 1 million containers saved from landfill and ocean environments
💚 A cleaner, greener future for our community

A SYMBOL of UNITY and IDENTITY 💚💙⚪🖤

The Torres Strait Islander Flag, designed by the late Bernard Namok from Waibene, was the winning entry in a flag design competition.

His design incorporated the cultures and traditions of Torres Strait Islanders and reflected the strong connection to land and sea. 🌊🏝️

💚 stripes = the land
💙 stripe = the sea
🖤 stripe = represents the people
⚪ Dhari headdress = islander culture
⚪ ⭐with 5 points = the 5 island groups
🤍 White Dhari & Star = 🕊peace

The flag was officially presented to the people of the Torres Strait at the 6th Torres Strait Cultural Festival in 1992.

A month later, the flag was recognised by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission and given equal prominence with the Aboriginal Flag.

On 14 July 1995, The Honourable William Hayden, Governor-General of Australia, proclaimed both the Aboriginal Flag and the Torres Strait Islander Flag as official ‘Flags of Australia’ under the Flags Act 1953. 🇦🇺

📅 25th National Reconciliation Week 💚💙🤍🖤❤️💛

The 2026 theme, ✨ ALL IN ✨, is a powerful call for every Australian to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation — every single day. 🤝🏽

The theme reminds us that reconciliation and advancing the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is not solely the responsibility of First Nations peoples, who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and acting for far too long. ✊🏽🌏

All Australians 🇦🇺are invited to lift our actions, deepen our understanding and strengthen our commitment to meaningful change. 💪🏽🔥

💫 Reconciliation Week is not about guilt or shame — it is about shared responsibility, respect for all and the collective journey of being Australian. Reconciliation will not happen by itself. We must All be ALL IN. 🫶🏽✨

🐶 Paws off the pitch, please! 🏉
We love our dogs — but Ken Brown Oval is for players, not pups.
Dog mess on the field is more than unpleasant. It can create real health risks for players, especially during training and games where children and adults are diving, tackling, running and playing on the grass.
Please help us keep Ken Brown Oval:
🌱 clean
🏉 safe
👟 game-ready
🙌 enjoyable for the whole community
