NSW SES Tingha Unit

NSW SES Tingha Unit The NSW SES (New South Wales State Emergency Service) Tingha Unit is the local combat agency for floods, storms and tsunami.

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency, preparedness and response service dedicated to assisting the community of NSW. It is made up almost entirely of volunteers, with 229 units located throughout the state. The units comprise of approximately 10,000 volunteer members, who are easily identified by their distinctive orange overalls. While our core responsibilities are for flood, sto

rm and tsunami operations, the NSW SES also provides support to general rescue efforts in the State. This includes Road Crash Rescue (RCR), Vertical Rescue (VR), Urban Search and Rescue (USR), evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have also been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales. The Service's trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters. The NSW SES assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include the NSW Police Force, the NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW. The NSW SES also partners with local communities through Community Engagement programs like FloodSafe, StormSafe and TsunamiSafe. These programs are supported by strategies and resources, are delivered locally through a range of activities and events and are a priority for the NSW SES. The aim is to engage at-risk communities on preparedness, response and recovery measures so that there is no loss of life and impacts caused by these events are minimised. This in turn builds community resilience to floods, storms and tsunami. For further information visit the NSW SES website at http://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/

‼ BE SAFE ON THE ROADS ‼

🌧 A timely reminder to be wary on the roads across the region over the next week or so, with a bus and three cars trapped between floodwater this evening.

🚗 If you need to drive on roads across the region that are notorious for flooding, we are asking the community to think twice before setting off on their journey.

🚗 With heavy rainfall in many areas, flash flooding is a serious risk during this weather event, meaning drivers could be trapped in their vehicles for prolonged periods should they get trapped between flooded creeks and causeways.

💦 Be safe, make sensible decisions and if you do need the assistance of the NSW SES, please call 132 500 for help.

‼ ATTENTION - THERE IS SOME SERIOUS WEATHER COMING THIS WEEK ‼

🌧 Wet and stormy weather will redevelop over much of New South Wales from Wednesday, as a deep low-pressure system interacts with very humid tropical air.

🌧 Widespread rainfall across NSW is expected through the second half of the week. Very intense rainfall rates are likely for some areas, most likely over the north from late Wednesday. With falls over 100mm expected in many areas.

🌧 The heaviest rainfall is forecast to contract to the south east of the state through the weekend as the low moves offshore.

🌧 The weather system is expected to cause flooding for the catchments listed from late Wednesday into the weekend. Flood classes are only defined for catchments where the Bureau provides a flood warning service.

🌧 Weather conditions have been predicted to mirror those experienced in some communities during March and April this year, and many communities have been warned to prepare for riverine flooding.

💦 Flooding is likely to occur in the following catchments:
• Upper Macintyre River - moderate to major flooding
• Gwydir River - moderate to major flooding
• Whalan and Gil Gil Creeks - (Local Flooding)
• Peel River - moderate to major flooding
• Namoi River - moderate to major flooding
• Barwon River - minor flooding

💦 Rainfall across the New England and North West are currently predicted to exceed 100mm in the coming days.
