Southeast QLD Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Large, Possibly Giant Hail, Damaging, Locally Destructive Winds, Heavy Rain

For people in Logan, Redland City and parts of Scenic Rim, Gold Coast, Brisbane City and Ipswich Council Areas.

GIANT HAIL POSSIBLE AS STORMS MOVE NORTH TOWARDS BRISBANE

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:20 pm, VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS were detected near Laravale, Tamborine and Jacobs Well. These thunderstorms are moving towards the north to northeast. They are forecast to affect Beaudesert, Beenleigh and Canungra by 2:50 pm and Logan Central, Cleveland and Jimboomba by 3:20 pm.

Another severe thunderstorm likely to produce large, possibly giant hailstones, damaging, locally destructive winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near Border Ranges National Park and the NSW border. This thunderstorm is moving towards the north. It is forecast to affect Rathdowney and Kooralbyn by 2:50 pm and the area between Boonah and Beaudesert by 3:20 pm.

6 CM HAIL WAS REPORTED AT CALOUNDRA AT 1:55 PM

Emergency services advise people to:
* If you have children make sure they are with you or an adult you trust.
* Pack away, secure or tie down outdoor furniture, toys and trampolines if it s safe to do so.
* Stay away from windows if there is giant hail.
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
