Today we had the privilege of giving Mossy his final ride from Toolamba.
It was an honour to be part of such a meaningful farewell. Rest in peace, mate — you’ll always hold a special place in our hearts. 🤍

Friends and Members,
The Memorial service for Toolamba brigade life member and Military Veteran Maurice Chard “Mossy”, will be held this Sunday the 26th of April 2026 at the Toolamba Hotel, Wren St Toolamba, starting at 12 noon.

Following the service and refreshments, the funeral cortege will make it way past the Toolamba Fire Station and his home to the Old Toolamba Cemetery, where an interment service will occur around 3pm.

All CFA members attending are asked to wear uniform, work wear preferred.

🚨What's that sound🚨

You may have noticed that our Station Siren has been sounding a little broken lately.

Today we have had our Siren swapped out to a refurbished Grifco Model 777.

Our Station Siren is activated for the following purposes:

🚨 Alerting fire brigade members to attend emergency calls.
🚨 Alerting the community that there may be an emergency event and to stay alert or seek further information through the Vic Emergency App.
🚨 Testing.
🚨 Special or significant events.

The significance of a refurbished Grifco siren is quite special because Grifco no longer make sirens, but they made WW2 alert sirens and this new beauty of ours is possibly from the 60's or 70's.

Special thanks to Jeremy from CFA for coming and setting up our new siren to keep the Toolamba community safe. We really appreciate it. 🚨👨🏻‍🚒

It is with deep sadness that we share the sad news of the passing of MAURICE CHARD, Mossy.

Mossy was a long term member of Toolamba Fire Brigade and a CFA Life Member, but most importantly, Mossy was a beloved father, grandfather and friend to many.

Funeral details (likely to be held in Melbourne) will be provided once known. We understand a memorial gathering will also occur in Toolamba.

Our Brigades thoughts are with Mossy’s family, who have asked for privacy as they navigate this news. We welcome friends to share some memories and photos of Mossy in the comments. ✨🫶🏻

Today has been declared a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating. Toolamba fire station is manned and ready to respond. Please stay alert, follow all fire restrictions, and have your fire plan in place.

Along with an extreme rating for tomorrow, Friday 9th January has been forecast as a CATASTROPHIC rating in Northern Country, which includes Toolamba. We encourage everyone to have essentials ready to grab and a plan to leave early if conditions change. 🚨🚒

A Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating has been currently forecast for Friday 9 January 2026 in the Northern Country, North Central and Wimmera districts. A Catastrophic rating signals the worst possible conditions for grass and bushfires. For your survival, leave bushfire risk areas - if a fire starts and takes hold, lives are likely to be lost.

An Extreme Fire Danger Rating has also been forecast for the remainder of the state. Take action now to protect your life and property.

Thursday 8th January is an EXTREME fire rating day here in Toolamba and all of Northern Country. Please adhere to restrictions and be prepared early.

An Extreme Fire Danger Rating has been forecast for tomorrow Thursday 8 January 2026 in the Mallee, Northern Country and North East district. Take action now to protect your life and property – fires will spread quickly and be extremely dangerous.

A Total Fire Ban has also been declared for the Mallee, Northern Country, North Central and North East forecast districts. This means no fires can be lit or be allowed to remain alight in the open air from 12:01am - 11:59pm.
