Upgrade works are progressing at Tooradin in Western Port, with pre-cast concrete panels now being installed on the ramp. 🏗️

A large crane and a team of divers have been busy lifting and positioning the pre-cast panels at the toe of the new ramp. With a herringbone design, these panels provide greater traction for vehicles and boat trailers using the ramp to launch and retrieve.

Works will continue this week as contractors install above-water panels over the coming weeks.

Once complete, the upgraded Tooradin facility will include:
➡️ A new and extended three-lane concrete boat ramp
➡️ New and extended pontoons
➡️ A widened entrance to support safer two-way traffic

Works remain on track for completion in September.

Works are progressing well at the Tooradin boat ramp, after construction kicked off a month ago.

The existing ramp has been removed to make way for a new and extended three-lane concrete boat ramp. Precast panels are on site and the team is getting ready to install, which will mark a key milestone in the project.

The upgrade works also include replacing the ageing pontoons with new longer pontoons, giving boaters more space to tie up, and a widened entrance to allow two-way traffic.

Dredging the toe of the ramp is expected to begin at the end of May, with works on track for completion in September 2026.

This project is made possible through the Victorian Government’s Better Boating Fund, which reinvests boaters’ licence and registration fees into improved facilities and programs for recreational boaters across the state.

It’s all go at Tooradin boat ramp in Western Port where upgrade works are well underway.

Three weeks into construction, excavators are on site undertaking earthworks before the existing three-lane ramp is completely renewed. The upgraded facility will feature extended ramps, each with grooved surfaces.

The ageing pontoons will be replaced too, and made longer, so more boats can tie up while skippers park trailers.

The entrance lane is also being widened from one lane to two to help ease congestion and improve traffic flow.

Works are due for completion before snapper season kicks off in spring 2026.

Work is due to start today on the upgrade of Tooradin boat ramp and the ramp will be closed throughout the project.

The upgrade includes replacing the existing three-lane ramp with an extended ramp in-cluding a new grooved surface, new floating pontoons for boats to be tied up to and improvements to the existing single-lane carpark access road to reduce bottlenecks and improve vehicle flow.

The upgrade will benefit boaters wanting to access Western Port and is due for completion before snapper season in spring 2026.
Alternative boat ramps nearby include Blind Bight (7km by car), Cannon’s Creek (9km by car) and Warneet (10km by car). The upgrade of the Lang Lang boat ramp was completed recently and is 26km away by car.

The upgrades to boat ramps at Tooradin and Lang Lang are examples of how the Better Boating Fund is reinvesting boaters’ licence and registration fees to improve access and facilities statewide.
