Today is ! 💜🌈

This year's theme of 'Colours of Courage' acknowledges the courage shown by LGBTQIA+ young people, allies, and communities every day. It recognises the bravery it takes to push for change, celebrates the allies who help create safer and more inclusive spaces, and honours past generations of LGBTQIA+ people.

Choosing to wear purple today means choosing to uplift, respect, and celebrate LGBTQIA+ young people. It shows that everyone has the right to be proud of who they are and who they are becoming.

Queensland teachers play a vital role in supporting LGBTQIA+ students by creating safe, inclusive, and empowering classrooms. Thank you for continuing to champion acceptance and celebrate diversity across your schools – it makes a world of difference to the lives of young people.

It was fantastic to see one of our provisionally registered teachers, Meg Chester, featured in her university's news recently. One of 310 mid-year education graduates from QUT (Queensland University of Technology), Meg completed a Bachelor of Education (Primary), which included placement at four schools around Brisbane, and provided her with valuable skills and experience she's now applying as a relief teacher.

In the article, Meg shared her passion for teaching, commenting that "I chose primary teaching because I just love the joy that younger children bring... I think there’s something really special about being part of that stage of their lives and helping nurture their confidence and love of learning."

For five decades, National NAIDOC Week has celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, and histories. It is held across Australia each year in the first week of July, and the theme for this year's celebrations is 'Fifty Years of Deadly'.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures, histories, and achievements, and connect with events and celebrations within their communities.
