🌱 Spring gardening season is almost here.

When using your green waste bin or green waste drop-off service, please remember that only garden organics such grass clippings, leaves, flowers, prunings and small branches are included.

Keeping green waste free from household rubbish, plastic and other non-organic materials helps ensure it can be processed into quality compost.

Remember:
✅ Garden organics only
✅ Cleaner green waste loads
✅ Better quality compost

AVOID SMOKE (HAZARD REDUCTION BURN) - Highfields (near Toowoomba) - fire as at 10:02am Tuesday, 25 August 2026

Warning level: ADVICE

Warning area: Highfields and surrounding areas

Thick smoke is affecting Highfields and surrounding areas. This is from hazard reduction burning near Barracks Road, Highfields.

Smoke could be in the area for days. Protect yourself from the impacts of smoke.

What you should do:

- If the smoke is thick where you are, stay inside and close windows and doors.
- If you need medication to help you breathe keep it close.
- If you are worried about your health call your doctor or 13 HEALTH (13 432 584). If it is an emergency, call Triple Zero (000) now.
- If you are affected by the smoke you may need to leave the area.
- Do not fly drones around the fire as they affect firefighting.

Impacts:

- Smoke could make it hard for some people to breathe and can cause health issues.
- Some roads may be closed or impacted by smoke. It could be hard to see. You may need to drive a different way.

📚Our Toowoomba City, Highfields, Crows Nest and Oakey Libraries will be closed on Monday 24 August.

We appreciate this temporary closure may cause some inconvenience and thank our community for their understanding as our team undertakes training to continue delivering quality services.

Return chutes, online renewals and other online resources will remain available during this time.

Normal opening hours will resume on Tuesday 25 August.

The Highfields Customer Service Centre, located in the Highfields Library building will also be closed on Monday.

The Greenmount Waste Management Facility will be temporarily closed on Thursday 20 August and Friday 21 August for planned maintenance.

The facility will reopen on Saturday 22 August.

TOOWOOMBA CITY LIBRARY HAS CLOSED

The Toowoomba City Library has closed for the rest of the day due to a water outage. This includes the library and its community rooms.

We expect the library to open as per its normal opening hours tomorrow, Saturday the 15th of August from 10:00am.

We will update this post should the above information change.
