Surf Coast Relay For Life

Surf Coast Relay For Life Create a team of friends and family and fight cancer! Mar 13-14 2020 at Polwarth Oval - Banyul Warri Fields, 1 Merrijig Drive, Torquay from 6:45pm to 01:00pm.

Relay For Life is an overnight community event where teams of 10-15 people participate in a relay-style walk, run or stroll to raise funds for Cancer Council. Team members simply have to keep their baton going around the oval non-stop from 7pm on the Friday to 3 pm on the Saturday. It's not a race...you can set your own pace! Your team's baton can be anything you like, and it's not unusual for ent

ire teams to go fancy dress. The event brings the whole community together for a night of fun, entertainment, celebration and remembrance. People of all ages come and go during the day to walk 30 minutes here, an hour there, while many stick around much longer to enjoy the entertainment, activities and community spirit. Many even show their commitment and dedication by camping overnight in the centre of the oval. Parents, there are also activities for the kids all throughout the day. Local individuals and businesses and Surf Coast visitors are invited to create a team, join an existing team, or donate to a team...whatever you can do to help the Surf Coast's fight against cancer. Teams are encouraged to undertake their main fundraising before the relay, so we encourage interested team members to register as soon as possible to optimise their fund raising efforts. Teams who raise $5,000 or more receive a Research Award where a research project is named in their team name or in memory of a loved one. Everyone in the community can get involved in Relay For Life. Cancer Council recommends each Relay For Life team consist of 10-15 team members, including a nominated team captain. There are no age limitations or fitness requirements - with its carnival atmosphere, Relay For Life is suitable for everyone, and anyone can join in the fun! If you are interested, please 'LIKE' this page and let other people know about it! You can get involved by:

* Starting up a team
* Being part of an existing team
* Donating a prize for the Surf Coast Relay For Life Raffle
* Donating towards a team
* Helping out the organising committee at the event

Share your cancer care telehealth experiences with us.
We would like to talk to people about their experiences with telehealth appointments for cancer care.
Cancer Council is working with health services across Victoria and Deakin University researchers to understand what cancer patients and their carers think of telehealth. This research aims to explore what patients and carers think is good about telehealth, what isn’t working and how telehealth services can be improved.
Participating in this research provides you with a valuable opportunity to help improve the telehealth experience for all Victorians affected by cancer.
To find out more and register for an interview slot, visit cancervic.org.au/about/stories/telehealth-research-project.html
If you have any questions about this research please contact Vicki White, lead researcher at Deakin University [email protected] or call 03 924 68522.
Thank you for your interest and support to help improve cancer outcomes for all Victorians.

If you've had a telehealth appointment for your cancer treatment during the COVID-19 restrictions, we'd like to hear from you.

To help us understand how the pandemic and physical distancing measures have impacted people affected by cancer, Cancer Council researchers are conducting an Australia-wide survey and we want to hear about your experience via this survey:

By taking part, you'll inform the development of new services for people affected by cancer - both in response to the pandemic and other future crises.

It’s understandable to be anxious about visiting the doctor or attending follow-up appointments at this time, however detecting and treating cancer early can save your life. Health workers are doing everything possible to make care safe, so if you have any symptoms, don’t delay talking to a doctor: https://bit.ly/2Q2WDZJ
