Congratulations to our Year 7 and Year 8 girls and boys who represented Kirwan High at the Karyn Murphy Cup last Friday!

Our students played well throughout the day and should be proud of their efforts and the way they represented Kirwan High.

📚 𝗬𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝟭𝟮 𝗠𝗢𝗖𝗞 𝗘𝗫𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗘𝗫𝗔𝗠𝗦 📚

Year 12 Mock External Exams will run from Monday 7 September to Wednesday 16 September.

Mock Exams are an important part of preparing for External Assessment, giving students the opportunity to practise under external exam conditions, identify areas for improvement and receive targeted feedback from their teachers.

Students are reminded of the following expectations during the Mock Exam period:

📍 𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘
• All students must attend HGR each day.
• Students with a scheduled Mock Exam must attend their exam.
• Students without an exam must attend their normal classes.
• Students are expected to attend school for the full day and cannot leave an exam early.
• Normal attendance and sign-in/sign-out processes continue to apply.
• Full school uniform must be worn.

📝 𝗘𝗫𝗔𝗠 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦
Mock Exams will operate as closely as possible to External Assessment conditions. Most exams will take place in the Excelsior Centre (EC), so students should check their timetable carefully.

• Bags must be left in the EC foyer.
• Phones are not permitted in the exam room.
• Once inside the exam room, students must remain silent and follow all supervisor instructions.
• Students must remain actively engaged with the exam for the full session.

✏️ 𝗘𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗣𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧
Students are responsible for arriving with the correct equipment for each exam.

• Water bottles must be clear with labels removed.
• Pencil cases must be clear, or a clear zip-lock bag may be used.
• Approved watches must be removed and placed face-up on the desk.
• A 2B pencil is required for multiple-choice responses.
• Erasable pens are not permitted.
• Only approved equipment and materials may enter the exam room.

Students with an approved AARA will receive their approved adjustments during the Mock Exams. If circumstances have changed, students should speak with their teacher or the Senior Schooling team as soon as possible.

❗ If you are absent for a Mock Exam, normal school absence processes apply. Missing a Mock Exam may mean missing an important opportunity to receive feedback before External Assessment.

💜 𝗪𝗘𝗔𝗥 𝗜𝗧 𝗣𝗨𝗥𝗣𝗟𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗬 💜

Last week, Kirwan High celebrated Wear It Purple Day, a day dedicated to celebrating and supporting LGBTQIA+ young people and creating inclusive spaces where everyone can feel welcome.

Students and staff got into the spirit with some fun purple accessories, while our True Colours group brought a splash of purple to the Quad with purple fairy floss and snow cones! 💜🍧

⚫🔴🏉 𝗤𝗟𝗗 𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗜 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗦 | 𝗞𝗜𝗥𝗪𝗔𝗡 𝗖𝗨𝗕𝗦 & 𝗕𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗦 🏉🔴⚫

Last Thursday, a number of students travelled to Mackay to support our Kirwan Cubs and Bears for the QLD State Semi Finals against St Brendan's College.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t our day, with both teams going down in hard-fought matches, bringing their incredible 2026 seasons to an end.

While it wasn’t the result we were hoping for, there is plenty for both teams to be proud of. Our Cubs and Bears have represented Kirwan with determination, teamwork and pride throughout the entire season, including both being crowned North Queensland Champions.

Congratulations to all of our players, coaches and support staff on another fantastic season, and thank you to everyone who supported our teams throughout the year. ❤️🖤🐻

Last term, over 250 students from nine local high schools recently came together at Kirwan High for the second-ever North Queensland STEM Racing Regional Finals!

A massive 120 teams put their engineering, design and teamwork skills to the test, designing and racing their miniature F1 cars in an exciting competition backed by Formula 1. 🏁
