Interschool Chess Tournament
Massive news from this weeks tournament...
Several of our students now have an official rating with Gardiner Chess after defeating so many other rated players!
Our top players ended up in a team together and their combined score was so high the officials placed them in the premiere league (the highest division in the competition), competing against the top 8 teams in Townsville, including Alexander Chang in only year 8!
They placed 6 out of 8 which is an awesome outcome considering we weren't expecting to be in such a high stakes division! Our games were played at the big tables at the front of the hall and closely monitored by arbiters. The teams that beat them were Cathedral, Annandale CC, Iggy and 2 from Grammar, so this makes Pimlico the highest performing public school in Townsville.
Mahbob Amini in particular scored an impressive 4/7, placing 9th out of 32 individual players. But, wins aren't everything. Tim faced the toughest opponents by far and his score of 3/7 was still enough to significantly increase his new rating because he was consistently versing players more than 200 rating above him.
Our remaining players all played in the A division and they did great, the competition was fierce and everyone played some awesome chess.
That'll be a wrap for interschools chess tournament for 2026, we look forward to a bigger 2027.
