With the outlook for an increased fire risk across parts of Victoria, farmers should be planning now for the upcoming season โ€“ and there is lots of information available to assist them.

Seasonal conditions to date have supported average to above average crop and pasture growth increasing vegetation on farmland across large areas of the state.

With this in mind, farmers and rural landholders should be working now to manage the risk of bushfire on their properties.

Trafalgar Brigade was well represented at the Baw Baw Group East Exercise held at Westbury on Sunday, 11 October.

A total of nine brigade members attended, including instructors, an FOV operator, the water point team and a full tanker crew.

Throughout the exercise, members rotated through a series of practical scenarios, including a running grass fire, staging area operations, and grass and scrub fire suppression. These activities provided valuable opportunities to develop operational skills, strengthen teamwork and enhance coordination in a simulated fireground environment.

Our members thoroughly enjoyed the day and represented Trafalgar Brigade with professionalism and commitment.

โฐ DAYLIGHT SAVING HAS ARRIVED! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

We changed our clocks last night โ€” and itโ€™s a great reminder to check something else in your home: your smoke alarms.

Now is a great time to:

โœ… Test your smoke alarms to make sure they are working properly.
โœ… Give them a clean โ€” gently dust or vacuum around your smoke alarms to help keep them working effectively.
โœ… Check the age of your alarms โ€” smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years.
โœ… Consider a 10-year lithium battery smoke alarm, which has a sealed battery designed to last for the life of the alarm, meaning thereโ€™s no need to replace the battery during that 10-year lifespan.

And while youโ€™re checking your own home, check in on someone who may be vulnerable โ€” a family member, friend, neighbour or someone in your community. Ask if theyโ€™ve had their smoke alarms checked recently and, if they need a hand, see how you can help.

A simple check today could make a big difference.

Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb 2026 โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ

Today, our firefighters take on the challenge of the Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb, climbing in full structural firefighting gear to honour the fallen and raise awareness and funds for those affected by cancer.

Every step has a meaning. Every floor carries a name. And every climb is a reminder of the incredible sacrifice made by firefighters around the world.

In this climb, firefighters are climbing in honour of FDNY firefighters Brian C. Hickey, Martin N. DeMeo, Gerard Patrick Schrang, Brian G. Ahearn, Dennis P. McHugh and Denis P. Germain, remembering their lives, their families and their service.

A huge effort from our team โ€” pushing through the heat, the gear, the exhaustion and those very long stairs! ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

We climb for those who can no longer climb.
We remember. We honour. We never forget. โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ
