Our Story
The Traralgon Fire Brigade was established in 1888. The brigade is an Integrated Fire Brigade (Volunteers and Career Staff) that is part of the Country Fire Authority (CFA). It services Traralgon, its surrounding communities and the wider Gippsland Region. Currently we have around 60 volunteers who include juniors and auxiliary members and 30 Career Staff. Our members come from a vast array of different backgrounds. The current fire station is the fifth occupied by the brigade and is located at 158 Princes Highway, the former hospital site. The brigade moved in on 26 April 2009 and held the official opening on 31 May 2009, exactly 40 years to the day of former station opening at Breed St in 1969. The new modern station houses seven firefighting vehicles: Scania Heavy Duty Pumper, 3750 Litre 4WD Crew Cab Tanker, Breathing Apparatus Support Unit, Patrol 4WD vehicle and a 4WD Utility/Salvage vehicle. The newest appliance, a 42 Metre high Bronto Skylift Aerial Ladder Platform arrived on 2 December 2011. The station is also home to the Hyland Fire Brigades' Group and houses their 4WD Support Vehicle. Our Brigade performs many different roles which include fire prevention / suppression, community awareness, Fire Safe Kids, fundraising, ongoing training and upskilling of members and attendance at public events. The brigade meets every Tuesday night at 7.30 pm for training or brigade meetings. New members are most welcome.
