It’s National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June), and at Homebase, we’re for reconciliation.

What does it mean to be ‘All In’?

Across our organisation, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and non-Aboriginal staff work together side by side. We’re united by our purpose to support people, strengthen communities and create a better future for people and planet.

We’re stronger because of the knowledge, experience and leadership Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people bring to our work.

But being ‘All In’ means recognising that reconciliation is not something that sits with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people alone – it belongs to all of us, and it requires consistent action.

It means being honest about what we’re doing well, where we can keep improving, and how we can keep moving forward with care and respect.

This week, join us in taking time to pause, learn and think about how we keep walking together toward reconciliation — this week, and every day.

📣 Tuesday Playgroup families, we have some great news! 📣

For the rest of the term, a trained volunteer from Karitane will be joining our Tuesday Playgroup to share simple tips for supporting children’s talking and listening skills.

The volunteer can share ideas to help with:
💬 talking and listening
🧸 using play to build speech skills
🏡 everyday tips to try at home

Come along to Tuesday Playgroup as usual and have a chat during the session.

🎨✨ Throwback Thursday to our Term 1 Thursday playgroup sessions with Keri ✨

In the final weeks of Term 1, we were lucky to have Keri from Karitane join us for art therapy — creating space for parents to talk about self-care and the realities of parenting 💛

One session explored “filling our own jugs” 🫶

Using collage, parents reflected on what helps them feel supported, regulated and able to show up as their best selves for their kids.

A good little reminder that looking after yourself matters too 😊

💫 May’s Full Circle Strive for Success Story 💫 May first connected with our Strive for Success, our youth job skills training and employment program, in the Illawarra in 2024, exploring her next steps and considering study at TAFE NSW 🎓

🌟 With support from her Jobs Coach, Zoe, she took the leap, completing her Certificate IV in Community Services, then moving straight into a Diploma.

🌟 Along the way, she balanced work and navigated housing challenges, staying focused and committed to her goals.

🌟 As part of her Diploma, May returned to Strive for Success for 200 hours of placement… but this time in a different role.

🌟 Now, she’s supporting other young people facing similar challenges, building connections, sharing her experience, and helping others find their own path forward.

“Seeing May grow into this role has been incredible,” Zoe shared. “She’s taken everything she’s learned and turned it into something meaningful for others.”

From participant to supporting others – a full circle moment! Never underestimate the power of the ripple effect 💫

😎 “Stay a baddie, be a baddie” 😎 That was the motto for our Built For Life program in Term 1!

Over six weeks, Homebase Case Workers Gemma and Byron worked with students from Great Lakes College Forster at the Great Lakes Sailing Club, creating a safe, inclusive space to connect and grow.

Through group discussions, hands-on activities and movement, young people built confidence, strengthened relationships and developed skills to support their wellbeing.

Students spent time building skills in:
💭 Decision-making
🌱 Personal development
🧠 Self-awareness

Simple tools like beading, colouring and fidgets also helped keep everyone engaged and focused.

We learned that being a “baddie” isn’t about being perfect — it’s about showing up, backing yourself and staying true to who you are 💪
