Yesterday, Tuncurry 1 responded to a bush fire on Burdekins Road, Bulahdelah.

On arrival, crews linked up with Wootton 1 and assisted with property protection. Shortly after, Tuncurry 1 was redirected to a property along Myall River Road that had come under threat, where we worked alongside Pindimar / Tea Gardens 9 to defend the home.

The landowners were well-prepared with a firefighting unit and assisted crews until the fire front had safely passed. Crews, including numerous other MidCoast brigades were then tasked with commencing tactical backburning operations to help contain the fire.

Tuncurry 1 returned to station just before midnight after a long and demanding day on the fireground.

This incident is a timely reminder to ensure you have a bush fire survival plan in place and that your property is prepared year-round. Preparation can make all the difference.

🚨 Fire Update – Woodlands Rd, Nabiac (Mid Coast) 🚨

The fire has now burnt approximately 559 hectares and is pushing predominantly north, with smoke impacting Tuncurry and along Failford Road.

Crews are undertaking property protection on Aerodrome Road, and residents around Failford should continue to monitor conditions closely.

Overnight, gusty southerly winds pushed the fire north across Elliot’s and Sandyflat Road. The fire remains south of the Wallamba River. Today, southerly to south-westerly winds have continued, pushing the fire further north.

Firefighters, supported by water-bombing helicopters, are working to slow the spread. Tuncurry Fire Boat has also been requested and will be on the water shortly. Crews may be seen patrolling in Tuncurry to assess fire proximity.

🔥 Reminders:
• Review your Bush Fire Survival Plan
• Bring washing indoors
• Keep doors and windows closed
• Avoid going out in smoke

📱 Monitor the Hazards Near Me app for updates and set up a watch zone.

We appreciate your cooperation as crews continue working to protect the community. 🚒

🔥Woodlands Road, Nabiac Fire Update🔥

Crews from across the area have been working tirelessly on the Woodlands Road Fire in Nabiac.

Just after midnight last night, the fire made a significant run to the north, resulting in crews shifting into property protection. Our firefighters did not return home until approximately 4:00am after a long and demanding night. Thankfully their efforts meant no assets were lost!

The fire has now burnt approximately 532 hectares, and crews remain on scene around the clock, working to contain it.

Some of our members assisted with door knocking overnight to keep surrounding residents informed.

🚁 What to expect today:
- A helicopter will be operating overhead assisting firefighting efforts
- Fire activity may increase if winds pick up
- Smoke may be visible intermittently across surrounding areas, depending on wind direction

⚠️ If you suffer from asthma or other breathing difficulties, please stay indoors where possible and ensure you have your reliever medication (puffer) readily available.

📱 Stay informed:
Residents in Tuncurry North / Failford Road areas are advised to closely monitor conditions via the Hazards Near Me app.

We thank the community for your patience and support as crews continue working to bring this fire under control.

🔥 Smoke Advisory Notice 🔥

Residents are advised to prepare for smoky conditions in the area due to fire activity nearby.

Smoke can travel long distances and may affect air quality, visibility, and health—especially for children, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions.

Here are some simple steps you can take to stay safe:

✅ Keep windows and doors closed to reduce smoke entering your home
✅ Set your air conditioner to “recirculate” if possible
✅ Avoid outdoor exercise or activities while smoke is present
✅ Bring pets inside and ensure they have clean water
✅ Keep medications (like inhalers) close by if you have asthma or breathing issues
✅ Check in on neighbours, especially the elderly or vulnerable
✅ Bring washing indoors to avoid smoke smell settling
✅ Drive carefully—visibility may be reduced in smoky areas
✅ Stay up to date with local alerts and advice from emergency services

If you experience difficulty breathing, chest tightness, or severe symptoms, seek medical advice promptly.

Let’s all take a few precautions to stay safe and look out for each other 💛

Today, Tuncurry Fireboat responded to reports of a fire on Wallis Island.

Upon arrival, crews located the source at Shallow Bay, where a landowner was carrying out a burn on their property.

This is a reminder to the community that although permits are no longer required, you must still notify the appropriate fire agency and give your neighbours at least 24 hours’ notice before lighting up.

Firefighters were assisted on scene by Coomba Park and Pacific Palms Rural Fire Brigades.

Smoke from this fire, along with another in Minimbah, may continue to impact surrounding areas for some time.
