Great advice from fellow firefighters at Eglinton

A Total Fire Ban has been declared for Chifley, in effect from midnight tonight, due to hot, dry and windy conditions. These conditions significantly increase the risk of fires starting and spreading rapidly.

What does a Total Fire Ban mean?

During a Total Fire Ban, no fires are permitted in the open. This includes lighting, maintaining or using a fire, or carrying out any activity that could cause a fire to start.
This applies to everyone, including landholders who may normally operate under a fire permit, all permits are suspended for the duration of the ban.

Why is this important?

Total Fire Bans are put in place to reduce the likelihood of fires igniting on high-risk days. Limiting fire activity helps protect lives, homes, property and the environment, and supports the safety of our firefighters and community.

Please reconsider any outdoor activities that could create sparks, stay informed through official NSW RFS channels or the Hazards Near Me app, https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/fires-near-me and remain vigilant.

If you see smoke or an unattended fire, call 000 immediately.

The fire was approximately 30m x 30m. Crews hiked around 300 metres into the area to access the fireground and successfully constructed a handtool line around the fire to contain it.

🚁Firebird provided valuable assistance with water bomber bucket drops, helping crews bring the fire under control quickly and safely.

A great team effort by all involved to keep the community and surrounding bushland safe. Thank you to everyone who assisted. 👏🔥

🚒 TURONDALE RFS – GRASS FIRE RESPONSE 🌾

This afternoon our crew responded to a grass fire at Cole’s Bridge. Thanks to the quick actions of our volunteers, the fire was contained before it could spread further in the strong winds.

This is a timely reminder that if you light a fire — whether you’re camping, cooking, or keeping warm — please ensure it is completely extinguished before you leave. Camping near the river gives you easy access to plenty of water, so make full use of it.

With the winds we’re experiencing, even a single smouldering ember can reignite and become a fast-moving fire.
Thanks to
Sally’s Flat RFS, Eglinton RFS, Wattle Flat RFS for assisting

Stay safe, and thank you to everyone who continues to help keep our community protected.
