On Friday night we were responded to support Somerville Fire Brigade to a devastating house fire.

Unfortunately, the fire progressed rapidly throughout the whole property and the house was a total loss.

There are real people affected by tragedies like this, members of our communities, our families and our friends. Our thoughts go out to all those affected by this terrible situation.

Firefighters worked hard and did all they could to contain the fire and prevent it spreading to adjoining properties.

We are community members helping our local community, we are 100% volunteer firefighters.

If you want to also help give back to your community, while keeping them safe from fire, we are recruiting now - please message us for more information.

Real fire, real experience 🔥

Over the weekend members from Tyabb assisted with a planned fuel reduction burn in Cockatoo 🧑‍🚒

Planner burns are a great opportunity for our members to experience real fire, in real bush land. Observing fire behaviour and contributing to planning and discussions around ignition, management and containment of the burn.

Alongside this, available fuels that may aid in rapid, unplanned fire spread are reduced providing more time to contain and extinguish a bushfire before impacting residents.

⏰🔥 Daylight Saving Reminder 🔥⏰

Daylight saving ends Sunday 5 April — don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour.

It’s also the perfect time to check your smoke alarms.

👉 Change your smoke alarm batteries
👉 Test each alarm to make sure it’s working
👉 Replace any alarms that aren’t functioning properly

Working smoke alarms save lives — early warning can make all the difference.

Take a minute while you change your clocks to keep your household safe.

Ever tried hunting Easter eggs in structure gear and gloves?
Probably don’t… it’s not easy 🐣🫠
(Also doesn’t help when the people without gloves keep eating all the chocolate 🍫)

No matter how you celebrate Easter, we hope you have a great day with family and friends; and can pick up your Easter eggs a little easier than our friends pictured 😂

Just a reminder we’re still in the Fire Danger Period, so while burning off might seem like a good idea, it’ll have to wait until the 7th of April… unless you feel like spending Easter with us 🧑‍🚒🚒

🐣🔥 Easter Camping Reminder – Know Before You Go 🔥🐣

Heading away this Easter? Whether you’re camping locally or travelling further, it’s important to check the fire restrictions that apply where you are.

The Fire Danger Period is still in place on the Mornington Peninsula until Tuesday 7th April, meaning restrictions on lighting fires remain.

Each local council area can have different end dates for the Fire Danger Period, so if you’re heading away, don’t assume the rules are the same as at home.

👉 Before you light any fire:
• Check if restrictions are still in place
• Follow local guidelines
• Always have water or a way to extinguish your fire nearby

A safe campfire starts with being informed.

Stay safe and enjoy your Easter break 🏕️🔥

Fire brigade, is anyone there 📣🧑‍🚒

Some of our firefighters preparing to level up to internal firefighters stepped up to test their skills in the dark at our training facility.

A critical role of internal firefighting is searching for and rescuing casualties in an emergency, this involves a rapid ‘primary’ search often in dark hostile conditions. It’s certainly not for everyone!

But our members smashed it on their first attempt, and soon will progress on to furthering their skills as internal firefighters 🔥

Scrub fire discovered just in the nick of time 🔥

We were responded to a scrub fire spreading over the long weekend. Fortunately the fire was discovered by someone heading to work.

Upon arrival the fire was already approximately 1.5hectares already and spreading. Due to our ability to quickly hit the fire edge, the fire did not increase significantly in size after our arrival.

While combatting the fire, the winds increased, had the fire not been called in when it was, the fire would have been able to spread significantly due to the high availability of dry fuels in the area.

Tyabb requested more appliances upon arrival and thank Somerville Fire Brigade, Hastings Fire Brigade and Pearcedale Fire Brigade for their prompt response 🚒

The fire is been treated as suspicious and has been handed over to police for further investigation.

On the weekend, our members gave their time to ensure the safety of all aircraft and spectators at the Tyabb Airshow 🚒🛩️

Tyabb Brigade have proudly supported the Peninsula Aero Club air shows for over 30 years. Providing fire and emergency services coverage for the event.

This year we were supported by members and vehicles from Somerville Fire Brigade, Moorooduc CFA and Westernport Fire Brigades Group - CFA alongside support from CFA (Country Fire Authority) Commanders.

Fortunately the event ran smoothly with minimal requirements for our services 👌🏼
