As National Volunteer Week comes to an end, we would like to take a moment to thank every one of our incredible SES volunteers. 🧡🚨

Over the past week we’ve shared just a handful of the stories behind the people who dedicate their time to helping others, supporting the community, and stepping up when people need it most.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life and balance volunteering alongside work, family, and personal commitments — yet continue to answer the call, day and night. We are incredibly proud of every member of our team and grateful for the passion, dedication, and teamwork they bring to SES.

A huge thank you also goes to the families, friends, and employers who support our volunteers behind the scenes. Your understanding, encouragement, and flexibility make it possible for our members to respond to emergencies and support the community when needed most. 👏

Volunteering with SES creates friendships, builds skills, strengthens communities, and gives people the opportunity to make a real difference.

If you’ve been inspired by these stories and would like to give back to your community, we’d love to hear from you. 🧡

Thank you again to all of our amazing volunteers, families, supporters, and community members for making National Volunteer Week so special. 🚨

As part of National Volunteer Week we’re sharing the stories of the incredible volunteers who help support our community.

Meet Brodie 👋

Brodie has been volunteering with SES for 18 years after originally joining alongside his wife, who had wanted to become a member. Nearly two decades later, SES has become much more than volunteering.

“The SES has become my second home.”

Over the years Brodie has built strong friendships and connections not only within the Central Coast Unit, but also with the many emergency services agencies SES works alongside.

One thing Brodie says people often don’t realise is that SES members are 100% volunteers.
“We don’t get paid, we have jobs like everyone else. When we respond, we are either taking time off work or time away from our families.”

Through countless callouts and experiences, many moments have stuck with Brodie — often seeing the relief on people’s faces when help arrives during difficult times.

One of the proudest parts of volunteering has been watching new members join the unit and seeing them grow and thrive over time. 🧡

For Brodie, SES plays an important role in the community by providing reassurance and support when people need it most. Responding to a callout can be both “scary and exhilarating,” depending on the situation. 🚨

Brodie describes the crew in three words:
🧡 Friends
🧡 Family
🧡 Life

The best part about the people he volunteers with?
“The passion and camaraderie.”

SES has also helped Brodie grow personally, building confidence in everyday life and creating many lifelong friendships along the way.

And one of the funniest moments on a job?
😂 “Rocking up to a callout with full face paint.”

A few quick favourites from Brodie:
🌙 Day or night callouts? Night
🪵 Chainsaw or storm jobs? Chainsaw
🧡 One word to describe SES? Rewarding

Brodie’s message to anyone thinking about joining SES:
👉 “If you are looking to give back to your community and do something rewarding, then this would have to be one of the best things you could do.”

Thank you Brodie for your incredible 18 years of dedication, leadership, and service to the community. We’re proud to have you as part of the SES family! 👏🚨

Meet Adam 👋

Adam has been volunteering with SES for 5 years after joining to give back to the community and try something new. Over the years, volunteering has become a huge part of life thanks to the amazing team environment at Central Coast SES.

“SES gives me a place to belong where the team always has my back — not just within SES, but personally as well.”

One thing many people don’t realise about SES volunteers is that behind every callout are volunteers balancing jobs, families, and personal commitments, while still stepping up to help community members in times of need.

Over the years, skills learnt through SES have included road crash rescue, working at heights, first aid, chainsaw operations, and traffic management. One of the proudest achievements has been completing training that once seemed impossible. 🚨🪵

Callouts are never the same. Whether it’s the adrenaline of a road crash rescue or the problem-solving and creativity needed during storm jobs, every response brings different challenges and experiences.

Adam describes his crew as:
🧡 Fun
🧡 Understanding
🧡 Balanced

The best part about volunteering?
“We all understand personal lives and that families come first.”

SES has also created lifelong friendships and helped build confidence to stay calm in high-adrenaline situations.

A few quick-fire favourites:
🌙 Day or night callouts? Night
🪵 Chainsaw or storm jobs? Chainsaw
🧡 One word to describe SES? Community

For anyone thinking about joining SES:
👉 “Give it a go and see how you go.”

Thank you Adam for your 5 years of dedication, service, and commitment to helping the community. We’re proud to have you as part of the SES family! 👏🚨

Meet Brady 👋

Brady joined SES after friends who were already members encouraged him to give it a go and spoke about how rewarding the experience was.

Now, 11 years later, Brady continues to volunteer because of the opportunity to help others and give back to the community. 🧡

Over the years Brady has developed an impressive range of skills including road crash rescue, rooftop safety, storm and flood operations, traffic management, chainsaw operations, and land search and rescue navigation. 🚨🪵🧭

Meet Adrian 👋

Adrian has been volunteering with SES for an incredible 15 years, with one thing keeping him coming back:

“Every callout is different.”

One thing Adrian says people often don’t realise is just how diverse the SES really is. From road crash rescue and land search operations to chainsaw work and assisting police, no two jobs are the same. 🚨

One of Adrian’s proudest moments was completing his very first road crash rescue cut-out.

“The training kicked in and we successfully extricated the patient.”

When asked what responding to a callout is like, Adrian explained that it can vary depending on the situation. Time-critical jobs especially bring adrenaline and challenges, but the focus always remains on helping people when they need it most.

Adrian describes his crew as:

🧡 Proactive

🧡 Diverse

🧡 Caring

For Adrian, the best part about volunteering is the people.

“Everyone works together with a common goal of helping people and the community.”

A couple of favourites from Adrian:

☀️ Day or night callouts? Day

🪵 Chainsaw or storm jobs? Chainsaw

Thank you Adrian for your 15 years of dedication, leadership, and commitment to supporting the community. Your experience and passion make a huge difference! 👏🚨

As part of National Volunteer Week we’re sharing the stories of the incredible volunteers who help support our community.

Meet Sam 👋

When Sam relocated to the area, he wanted to get involved in something meaningful and contribute to the wellbeing of the local community — leading him to join SES. 🧡

Sam has now been volunteering for 2 years and says what keeps him coming back is the ongoing feeling of being of service, learning new skills, and working alongside great people.

For Sam, being part of SES means community, camaraderie, and supporting others when they need it most. He says one thing people don’t always realise is just how passionate and dedicated SES volunteers are, often giving up huge amounts of their own personal time to help others. 🚨

Responding to a callout can be exciting and rewarding.
“Callouts can be a thrill, and a short opportunity to trade in a normal day to go do something extraordinary for someone else having a bad time.”

One of the best parts of volunteering for Sam is the people he works alongside.
“How dependable they are, their willingness to get hard things done well, and to look out for each other.”

Since joining SES, Sam says he has become far more aware of how quickly things can go wrong, while also learning how to walk into difficult situations calmly and confidently.

Sam’s advice for anyone thinking about joining SES:
👉 “Don’t hesitate or hold back, you’ll learn a lot and will be in some very good company here with us.”

A few quick-fire favourites from Sam:
☀️ Day or night callouts? Day
⛈️ Chainsaw or storm jobs? Both!
🧡 One word to describe SES? Mates
