Father’s Day Spotlight: A Son’s Commitment to Caring for His Dad 💙

Today, on Father's Day, we're celebrating the many fathers, sons, grandfathers and father figures who provide care and support to loved ones every day.

Meet Peter, one of our local area coordinators, who has been caring for his 87-year-old father, Phillip, as his health needs have increased over recent years.

Peter's story highlights the important role family carers play in helping loved ones live well, stay connected and navigate the challenges that can come with ageing.

This Father's Day, we recognise Peter and all male carers who give their time, care and support to family members and friends. 💙

🌏 World Spinal Cord Injury Day | 5 September 2026 🌏

Today we recognise World Spinal Cord Injury Day, a global awareness day dedicated to preventing spinal cord injuries and improving outcomes for people living with SCI. This year's theme,"From Awareness to Action: Ten Years Advancing SCI Prevention," marks a decade of global efforts to drive change and promote inclusion.

At Carers Queensland, we're proud to support initiatives that turn awareness into action. 💙

In recent years, we've worked with Shed West to improve accessibility and inclusion, helping more men living with disability participate in the activities, skills-sharing and social connections that Men's Shed programs provide. By introducing modified workbenches designed for wheelchair users, Shed West has created a more accessible space where everyone has the opportunity to get involved, contribute and connect. 🛠️♿

💜🌈 Carers Queensland was proud to attend Gay Skate in celebration of Wear It Purple Day.

The event was a fantastic opportunity to connect with our LGBTQIA+SB community members, share information about our services, and stand alongside LGBTIQA+ young people.

While many young people continue to experience discrimination, exclusion, and oppression, events like Gay Skate help foster inclusion, connection, and a sense of belonging.

Did you know we have a dedicated email address for our LGBTQIA+ community to reach out. Email 📩 [email protected]

Staff from our Logan and Eight Mile Plains offices attended World of Cultures festival over the weekend, organised by SSI - SettleSSI - Settlement Services Internationaled with almost 600 community members who visited the Carers Queensland stall throughout the day.

Our team shared information about NDIS supports, Carer Gateway services and Registered Training Organisation (RTO) training opportunities, helping people learn more about the wide range of supports and services available through Carers Queensland.

One of the highlights was our interactive spinning wheel, featuring questions about the NDIS, caring roles and study pathways. It was wonderful to see children and adults getting involved, with many families working through the answers together and sparking great conversations about available supports and opportunities.

The festival also provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen connections with community partners, including Amparo Advocacy, MultiLink Community Services Inc., Multicultural Australia.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say 'hello'. We loved being part of such a vibrant celebration of culture, diversity and community. 💙💚
